Can a 40GB series2 image be used with an 80GB series2?

Are the TiVo series2 units similar enough to interchange drives? Has anyone attempted this?

If the first 3 digits of the serial numbers are not the same, no.

The machine will likely boot, but you'll end up with problems down the road.

Interestingly, these two TiVos are the most similar units to come out since the Philips HDR series, but it does seem that this really wont work long-term like switching HDR images will.

Actually, I think it should be "the first 2 digits".

Sounds like the Series2 units are not interchangeable. My curiosity is satisfied!
