Upgrading by adding or replacing a drive

I am getting ready to perform an upgrade shortly and had originally planned to add a second drive to my SA Tivo. Recently though, I have read a couple of things from people saying that you are better off replacing the initial drive in an upgrade and sticking with only a single drive due to striping issues/problems across two drives.

Any thoughts on this?

I don't think TiVo stripes its recordings, but there is a similar issue to RAID 0 where the loss of one drive results in the loss of the whole set.

I think it's safer to replace and you can add your current drive as a B drive later on if you desire.
