Need Advice Upgrading SONY 2000

I need some advice in upgrading my Sony svr2000. I have never touched the unit before and I am prepared to take the plunge. I am wondering which is the best upgrade path for that peticular model.
Should I:
1) Purchase a new HD and marry it to the existing 30 gig drive, thereby keeping all of my shows & preferences.
2) Purchase a new HD and make it my main TIVO drive, leaving me an option to add another drive later
3) Purchase a new HD and make it the main drive, then reuse the old drive as the secondary drive. Could I keep my shows & prefs?
I am also wondering if there is a problem adding a 120 gig drive to this unit. I have read in some postings that a large drive might slow things down a bit. Or is that BS? Could I put 2x120G drives in the svr2000 without any noticable slowdown.
Does anyone have any other useful info that would help me chose my best option for my configuration?
Thanks for your help!!!

I've got a Sony SVR2000 with a WD 120GB 7200 drive. It's fast & responsive, cool (>30?C) and works great. The original drive is on a shelf as emergency backup.
