Alias "A Free Agent" *Spoilers*
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: boywaja
I missed the first 5 minutes while surfing the forum :(, I think I saw mom tell sydney that she couldn't talk to her anymore or something like that. What did I miss.
We're at the opening credits (12 minutes in). Its nice to see them still mentioning rembaldi.

Syd tried to resign from the CIA; the supervisor said if she did, she couldn't see Mom any more (her clearance would be revoked). Mom said if she stayed, Mom wouldn't see her any more (apparently trying to pressure her into leaving, and leading a normal life).
[Edit]...and thank goodness Marshall will always be Marshall!

Dammit! Two weeks between episodes again!! I swear the people at ABC are freakin' geniuses with their scheduling of 'events' and regular programming.
Instead of getting the second part of this week's Alias next week, we get to wait two weeks so that ABC can show the re-treaded Music Man next week.
It's not like ABC couldn't air that earlier in the night, or after airing the second part of tonite's Alias.
Morons.
Meanwhile, I'm hoping like hell that Dixon comes on board and stays in the show. Carl Lumbly is a great actor and I'd hate to see him leave the show.
Glad to see Marshall fit right in at the CIA. He's just such a funny geek.
I've gotta imagine that Sloane vs. Sydney is gonna go on a while at least. They can't just move Sydney into being part of 'the agency'. The show is built on more than that.
Gotta say that Sloane's make-up/mask didn't look that good. I'm guessing the make-up people were having a bad day.
Interesting that Rambaldi artifacts are making such a big re-appearance.

Great Episode!!!
Good to see Sloan, Sark, Mom, Dixon and Marshall (God I'm glad he's back ... cracks me up ... and looks like he'll be the "MAN" at CIA now)
Now there was definately a "story arc" at the end of tonites show ... just like old times ... right?
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Dixon will be back according to next weeks clips!!! I was worried the writers were getting rid of him.
By the by, does anyone know how Alias's ratings have been since they announced the whole "change" since Super Bowl Sunday?
2 weeks till ...
Posted by: Rob Helmerichs
Well, there are only four hours of network programming, and Music Man is a three-hour family show, so the only time to air it is at 6:00 (7:00 Eastern). That leaves what to show at 9:00, and I guess they decided to go with the regular show, Dragnet, which hasn't had time to develop the same kind of devotion as Alias, and whose viewers would be less likely to still remember the show exists after two weeks.
Posted by: cheerdude
Supposedly the ratings have been "ehh"... not great, but not awful either. Not in the Top 20 for the past week... or for the season.
Super Bowl Sunday epsiode got a 13.3/23
Last Sunday's episode was #45 - 6.7/10; better than season average 5.5/8

Great episode.
1) So much for no more cliffhangers. :) Alias and 24 regularly have me screaming at the TV in the last 5 seconds.
2) LOVED seeing the CIA tech guys ask Marshall how he detected them. :D Easily one of my favorite characters..
Off topic, watched a bunch of old episodes yesterday.. great Marshall quote:
"Umm, now I know we're all a bit hungry for lunch, so I'll try to use
the maximum amount of brevity possible, and, ... okay."
3) So much for no more Rambaldi. :)
I'm trying not to judge this whole post-superbowl era on any individual episodes, but rather on the feel of how it's going as a whole. I stand by my enthusiasm for the show.
Grr.. two weeks..

I thought the "new" Alias had the potential of ruining the series but I can happily say that things are going great! I love the new plots, and they still do seem to be continuous episodes and not totally wrapped up at the end. In fact, they are doing cliffhangers and bringing back great things like Sydney's co-workers, Mom, and Rambaldi. I really love this show and can't wait to see what happens next!
Posted by: Rob Helmerichs
On the cliffhanger thing, do bear in mind that this week was the first of a two-parter, so you probasbly don't want to get used to it!
Posted by: sguthrie
Marshall rules! He stumbled on the CIA's tap because his on-line D&D Gnome skiped a frame while swining it's battle axe. How classic is that?
Posted by: modnar
I laughed out loud at Marshall's line about the "red phone."
Great episode!
Posted by: Mike20878
The Dixon story line is killing me...:) I was shocked at his wife's reaction at first. It's pretty cool how they're showing us Dixon's personal dilemmas.
A techno-thing that required some suspension of disbelief... Marshall instructing Sydney how to transmit the last calls on a cell phone??
So, it looks like Sloane is up to his old tricks and deceiving his wife again.

I figured it was the first of a two-parter, since they didn't finish up the story line of Christian Slater's character (wasn't his family saved but we never saw him again? Or am I blanking out?) and what will happen now. I liked the scenes from the next episode - clearly showing that Dixon is getting pulled in.

Dont get mad at Cynthia for "spoiling" that, "I Don't Watch Spoliers" People!!!
Its only her 10th post.
I wonder how Sloan knew about Vaughn???
Francie perhaps? If so, he showed his "hand" a lil' there.

It's not a spoiler if it's in the "Next Week On..." segment. That segment has already aired, and thus is open to discussion.

A lot of people (myself included) don't watch "next week on..." to keep from being spoiled. Spoiler tags around that info is apprecated by me at least. Spoilers in the already aired episode are fair game.

I agree, I think the "next week" clips should be spoiler-tagged. I make it a point to not watch any of those, or even any commercials for shows I know I'll watch (my entire SP list, for starters).
So PLEASE spoiler-tag anything at all having to do with future episodes, including info in the promos.
Quick how-to on spoiler tags:

Two words: Sweeps Period. I can't wait for Nielsen (or a competitor) to finalize the personal ratings devices that have been in development for almost a decade now. Once they are able to distribute a device that can accurately track what is being watched, and when, with no logging required, and can do this at the local level, 'Sweeps' will be a thing of the past. We will then be able to follow the arc of a story without all of the "Let's put this show on hold for three weeks while we air 'World's Greatest Circus Disasters XVII'".

The Rambaldi stuff is the only real part of the show that drives me nutty. I can only hope that with this latest move by Sloane (putting all of the devices in one warehouse, trying to assemble them into the ultimate device), there can be one huge explosion, and Rambaldi will be nothing but a bad dream. :)
Did anyone else find it interesting to discover why Sloane started on his life's path? Kind of makes him even creepier.

Hey ...
Did anyone happen to see the lil' Ford Focus advertisement during the race to the Bank last night (on Alias)?
Thats the only way advertisers can get to us TiVo-lutionists!

Must...buy...blue...SVT...
Yeah, that was kind of gratuitous.
Posted by: DancnDude
Doesn't the CIA have most of the real Rambaldi artifacts? And at least one I can think of, the music box, was distroyed by Sydney in that ice cavern.
Posted by: brott
That's what I was thinking; and wasn't page 47 of the rambaldi documents missing?
Also, how about the bank vault # ... 4747 :D

Missed that.. I did notice though when watching an earlier episode ("Q&A", right after The "Phophecy") that the CIA guy who used to be on Boston Public (actor Joey Slotnick http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/74/17/12m.jpg) said:
"We've decoded 47 distinct verifiable Rambaldi predictions"..
What other 47s are there? Every writing of his has something key on page 47, the alliance server 47 brought them down, 4747 is the bank vault..
Posted by: BlearyEyed
Other occurrences of 47 that I can come up with:
When the guy in jail (McNeil?) gave Will the pass code to enter his former company’s computer network the code was 4747
Of course the Prophecy was found on the blank 47th page
Similarly in the “Prophecy” Syd and Vaughn steal a picture of Pope Alexander VI
from the Vatican. The picture is file number 15-something-47.
There have also been a lot of room 47’s that I’ve noticed, but I can’t remember them all from memory.
Perhaps a more intriguing question, in every location the Bristow’s go off to some letter is highlighted, is there a hidden meaning there? Anybody ever done any work to figure that out?

Dunno, but I read somewhere that the specific letter to be highlighted is in the script...

This from J.J., the creator of Alias:
quote:
From Stephanie: Is there ANY truth to the rumor that there's some hidden message in all the letters they zoom through when letting us know where the action is taking place in Alias? I'm dying to know!
JJ: Yes, there is something more to the "push-throughs," as we call them. Stay tuned!
The quote was found in this interview with J.J. and the cast of Felicity here: http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Wanda...y02/index5.html
Posted by: Smiles
OK, so, who has the 'push-throughs' catalog? Let's get cracking, people! :)
Posted by: brott
Well, I would say that every 47th letter has significance, but that is probably too far apart. Perhaps every 4th & 7th highlighted letter throughout? Alas, I do not have a record of the episodes to check.

Maybe when Syd's mom turns 47... the prophecy turns true.

Here's a little link to get you guys started... This was a huge deal last year. The "Online Adventure" facet of Alias was quite groundbreaking (as was 'Push, Nevada') but Alias is still going strong. :)

And one link further down which goes to the list of 47 occurrences and highlighted letters.....

This is going to be very interesting. Reminds me a bit of clues from The Mole.

Looks like a pretty lame attempt to get you to view the web sites of their partners. ("Go find me some PO number on snowboarding.com")

Yeah, that was kind of gratuitous.
That's a sonic blue ford focus(the color of my mustang). Yeah it was over the top but every good car scene("get in the car") has been a ford so i guess FoMoCo gave ABC a lot of money.

There's another thread about the Ford Focus placement here:

Just tuned back in to this thread. Duly noted, I will tag "scenes from the next" from now on. Didn't realize.
I love the scenes from the next episode section of a tv show... don't know why, I just always look forward to it (could it be that I'm a sucker?).

Thanks, very much appreciated.
And, as an additional tidbit of info, it is possible to go back and edit your own postings to "spoilerize" or remove that info after the original post.
That way, folks who are even farther behind than I in watching this episode (today is March 02), won't get caught also. :-)
Regards,
Ladd
