Digital phone service doesn't work with TIVO

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just purchased a 80 hr series 2 and a lifrtime service. When the phone would not dial up, I was told that my digital phone service would not work. Tivo Tech Services said to check this site.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or send a response that tells how I can have the TIVO service access the digital phone service,

Tnaks

TiVo's modem is for analog phone services as are virtually all other regular computer modems. Therefore you need an adaptor that will allow a standard modem to work with your system.

Contact the system manufacturer/instaler/maintenence comapny to find out exactly what you need.

I had a similar problem a couple months ago when I switched from PacBell to Digital service for my phone, through my cable provider.

I called the service department of my provider and they sent a technician out to boost up the voltage a bit on the interface on the side of my house where the digital phoneline comes in. Problem solved, no cost and they didn't even have to have me at home to do it.

Just tell them that you have a modem that won't pickup the line since you changed providers and they need to bump up the power on the line a tad. They'll know what to do.

Good luck,

Tony

huh??? if this worked then you dont have a digital line. digital phone lines will NOT work with an analog modem. we have digital lines here at work and when someone tries to use their laptop on them they usually end up frying the modem.

I think he means that the digital phone line is converted to analog at the demarc. Therefore, all the phones in his house don't know the difference. But, if things aren't balanced out correctly, a modem may have issues.

Gotta love the cable's digital phone service. As though the other carriers have mechanical or analog switches. Just cracks me up.

Edited to contribute to the topic.

If you have DSL, you may need a line filter at the TiVo?

If not connect a telephone to the same jack and make sure the line is good from that location.

If so, try using a different TiVo dialup number.

I just had DSL installed and my S1 is working fine without a filter.

Different story for the Radio Shack A/V Network. That stopped working once DSL was installed. Filters or not.

I have digital phone service (through the cable co.) and no problem with TiVo. I don't have a jack near my TV, so I bought the wireless adapter that's available at the TiVo store. It works fine.
