Okay, just received my TiVo today, and it's set up and seems to be working, though it's still "compiling," or whatever it does in those first 4-8 hours.
We have the satellite receiver (obviously the OTA antenna just has a coax cable coming in, no box), a VCR (which we would love to be able to record onto), and a PS2, in addition to the new TiVo. Previously, we had it set up so that we could turn on the VCR and turn off the satellite receiver, in order to use the VCR (for either videos or the PS2, which is connected through the VCR. However, we can't figure out how to view the VCR. My husband was trying earlier, and can't even get the "blue screen" we get when there's no video playing.
I'm not techno-wise at all, so PLEASE speak clearly using simple language. :-)

Aha! My husband figured it out! He has the satellite and antenna both going into the TiVo, then the TiVo going out to the VCR, then the VCR to the TV. So now you just switch between TV/Video (with the non-TiVo remote) to switch between TiVo and video/PS2.
But, I do want to know how to do a search by keyword. My husband likes the Kings, and has the NBA season pass through Dish. I've figured out how to record Sports --> Basketball, but can't seem to get it to limit it to the Kings. What am I missing?
Thanks!!

And how do we view our favorite channels, instead of the entire list? I must admit, that's the one thing that I'm not so happy with TiVo about so far. Watching satellite directly, we could set up four different favorite lists. It looks like you can only have one with TiVo, and so far, I can't figure out how to access it.

keyword wish list, and have it only look in Sports-> Basketball

Create a WISHLIST which tapes any shows under Sports - Basketball keyword "Kings."
In setup you can set your favorite channels then in live guide you can select to view only the favorites. The manual explains this.
Read the FAQ on this site for many great tips. Welcome!

Okay, hopefully last question, and I'm not finding an answer in either the manual or the FAQ at Tivo.com: Last night when we first turned it on, we didn't get satellite channels, because it was still configuring. So we played with live TV on our one OTA channel. Then we started getting satellite channels, watched a few different channels, and even recorded an episode of South Park. Later last night, though, the satellite stopped coming in. We're now getting the message that this is a subscription channel (even though it's not). This is not a message from TiVo, but from our satellite provider. It's still that way this morning. Why would it start working, then stop??
I can't figure out how to watch satellite sans TiVo without re-doing all the wires. Please don't tell me I need to re-configure all the wiring to troubleshoot this!!

Never mind. Hubby called the satellite company, and they said it was due to static build-up from ALL the wires running everywhere in the back. He removed the Smart Card (with the chip) and replaced it, and all is well.
Sorry for all my questions...thanks for putting up with me and not kicking me out of the forum.
I'm really looking forward to watching my recordings from tonight!!
