...So I Upgraded to Series 2.

I just upgraded to Series from a 30 Hour Series 1, Sony CVR 2000. I have a couple issues & questions to those of you out there....Thanks in advance to anyone who has any insight.

1. What happened to Tivolution Magazine and Showcases? Is that only a Series 1 feature.

2. The picture quality of the Tivo screens seems to be lacking on my new series 2. I checked all of my connections. Is that a feature of going from a Sony Brand to a no-name Tivo brand? Any suggestions for a sharper picture for the Tivo screens. My Cable reception remains the same, but there seems to be some RF interference.

----
Also a couple observations...
1. I Liked the Sony Remote better. One button, Now Playing list is the best.

2. Maybe its being used to the old one, but the color scheme and colors seem to be washed out on the Tivo screens.

3. Set up was a lot quciker from what I remember Series 1 to be back in 1999. I remember not having access to my TV for a couple hours while I waited for it to set up. Series 2 let me to at least watch tv while it set up.

Question 1. TiVolution Magazine & Showcases are there, but it takes almost a week the first time before they show up. I think it retrieves data for them only once a week, on Monday.

Observation 1. You can get to Now Playing by pressing the TiVo button twice. Bling bling.

Observation 3. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick the Setup was. The onscreen message warned that it may take a few hours, but it only took a few minutes.

Just give it time, those will start to appear.

tivo2 uses a different compression scheme then the first one.

if my friend records a show on the high, i have to record it on best to make it look the same

Picture quality - I was initially disappointed at the quality, even on Best. I went through my hookup, replaced all generic RF coax with RatShack Gold, only put one splitter (a RatShack Gold one) between the TiVo and cable jack, and checked all of my cable connections from the street for tightness. Major improvement in quality, went from what I'd say was "average", to "very good". Still looking for what I can do to go to "excellent". I may call Cox to come out and do some signal level debugging.

There has been some debate as to the relative picture quality of S1 vs. S2, regardless of brand. TiVo did change video chipsets for Series 2 and has said they are still learning how to best "tweak" it.

Has your TiVo upgraded to v3.2 yet? This latest software release helped with the PQ on the Series 2 platform. If not, force a couple of calls and it should download.

My new S2 came with v3.2 already installed.

One other thing I noticed....

Channel flipping is slower, almost a full second of a black screen. Since I still have my Series 1, I checked that I was using the same Cable Remote IR in the setup, I am.

My series 1, processes the channel change slightly quicker.
