Help! How to connect Series2 with no phone jack nearby?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

We have a Series2 (Sony) that we'd like to connect to the home network for updates and for Home Media. It is, unfortunately, not located near any phone jacks. We have a phoneline networking system set up right now (2WIRE). How can we connect the TiVo to this network? Phoneline to wireless bridge? Is there such a thing?

There are a bunch of S2 (TiVo) USB to Ethernet adaptors supported and if you can get an ethernet to phoneline networking setup.

Of you can go 'wireless' phone jacks. Or PowerPlug Ethernet over powerlines.

What kind of phoneline networking do you have? There are several varieties with HomePNA the most popular, I think.

There are a lots of posts on going TiVo to wireless (802.11b).

I'm setting up a friend with a S2SA and braodband. Does he need a phone line for guided setup, or can I 401 him right off the bat?

Depends on which version of the software it shipped with. The (un)support for Broadband wasn't built-in until 3.0 software. The 60-Hour Series II boxes shipped with 2.5 or something like that, so you had to do the GS with a phone line until they got the software update. I would think that if the box shipped with 3.0 or higher, you could set the dialing code to #,401 and have at it. Then again, YMMV.
