T60 random rebooting issues

I have a Sony T-60 which I added an Maxtor 80GB 7200rpm drive using MFS tools 2.0 about 6 months ago. The upgrade went smooth, as all I did was add/marry the new drive. Things worked fine for about 3 months, and then went south. The system will randomly reboot from time to time, and I haven't found any sort of pattern. My first inclination is that I have a bad disk drive, but am not sure. The temp in the unit stays at a consistent 49C, which from what I read, is normal. One more note is this problem seemed to surface after I did the 3.1 upgrade, but Sony and DirecTv claim that there are no known issue with 3.1. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

First step would be to open up your T60 and check & reseat all of your drive cables -- both the IDE and power cables. It's possible that something simply worked loose over the past months.

After that, check your drives in your PC with the appropriate manufacturer's tools. Bad drives with corrupt software can reboot when they fail - sometimes without the green screen. You also could be having power supply issues. Have you been having brownouts or thunderstorms?

I was having the same problem after a upgrade and found it to be a heat related issue. It has ceased to be a problem since I took the cover off to let the heat escape. I was getting higher heat readings than you before the cover removal however. Try removing the cover and see if that helps. I have mine stacked in a cabinet on top of several other amps and a vcr, which adds to the heat problem. If I remember correctly, I was getting 54 degree readings before the removal and now am getting readings of 50 or lower.
