Joe Millionaire finale (Spoilers!)
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)
Posted by: Skittles
OK, we know he picked Zora...and Sarah is moving out....with some help from Melissa M!
Wait, what is she doing here? And could the M. in her last name be short for Mariott? Something smells really fishy. Melissa could be Evan's sister! And that would explain why she stayed so long...
Just a guess. 15 more minutes, and we'll know for sure.
(Edit: BAH! 6 weeks of watching, and no devious ending)
Posted by: Skittles
Cat's out of the bag! Evan gets some cash for making a good choice (at least, IMO).
One million is nothing to sneeze at. I'm somewhat surprised...
Posted by: Zixar
What a schmaltzy piece of tripe... Like we didn't see the million bucks coming...
Posted by: TiVoLance
Hmm that was a twist. Did anyone else think that Paul had some voiceover near the end when his back was turned. Seemed strange. Well I can't wait to see Evan out of the media ;)
Posted by: Turtleboy
I'm sure he would have gotten the million no matter who he chose, even Heidi and Mojo.
But, let's see.
I'm sure it's not a mil each, but they split it. After taxes, it comes to 250k each.
Still not bad, but they're certainly not millionaires.
And another thing. When Sarah and Melissia were talking, did she admit, uh, servicing him?
Posted by: AstroDad
I for one thought it was a perfect ending. I have thought all along that Evan was a nice guy and Zora was the only one that I though was truly sincere. I am glad they had such a happy ending. One of the many guesses WAS that they would give the couple money if the woman still chose him after finding out the truth. So, once again TIVO Community outsmarted the reality show!

I wondered that too. Seriously, I don't want to feed such a story, but really I wondered if that's what she was trying to tell the other girl.
Posted by: BeanMeScot
He made the right choice. The way he was beating around the bush, I thought he had made the wrong choice. Sarah never would have accepted him as he is. I loved it that Zora said the one thing she did not like about him was that he inherited $50 million. As for the amount of the money, I don't think either of them needed a lot of money. That is good "seed" money. I figure Zora will probably give most of hers away anyway.

Absolutely. I wonder how long it will take for Larry Flynt to dangle a check in front of her for a guest role in his little rag. ;)

I'll say this much, the producers know how to milk this cow.
Next week we're going to watch the interview show, then I'm sure the week after will have all the girls getting back together and beating on him.
Posted by: warpath
I didn't care who won, but I did have a problem with the ending...
Specifically, I don't trust ANYONE who says that the one thing she DIDN'T like about Joe was that he had $50 million. That's horse.
Second, and I know it's a pet peeve of mine, I hate anyone who talks about "journeys." (As in, "I'm glad I was able to share this journey with you" and "I'm looking forward to the next phase of our journey.") :(

Interview show???
I love that it's called The Aftermath though. Classic.

I noticed that my SP didn't pick it up. You will need a manual recording to catch this one.

That thing was SO heavily edited, with reaction shots spliced together, shots used and re-used, voice-overs done post production with shots of the backs of peoples heads, etc. Who the heck knows what happened there for real? The whole thing was more manufactured than any non "reality" program. Ugh.
I'm sure that the ladies had converstaions amongst themselves about how the *producers* lied and misled them. But of course none of that gets on the air.
Maybe some day the "behind the scenes" episode(s) will air, milking this even more.

I think on one of the commercials for the Aftermath, they said it was the first time Evan and Zora have seen each other since France.
Very odd if true.

I'm so ashamed of you all:D Don't feed the reality tv monster. It is growing out of control. I want good programming with real actors. Not idiot buffoons named Evan, and Sora, or whatever the heck yall are talking about. TAKE THE STAND. I believe in you.

This theory is getting a ton of play over at TWoP too.

That's what I thought, too, at first. But with the joy of Tivo, we watched it a few times. She's definitely not "servicing" the rolled-up socks. She was clearly either kissing the socks or trying to hide her kissing motion from the camera with the socks. Watch it again.
But the rumors will fly, I'm sure. I almost feel bad for her.
Anyone else completely disappointed with the "twist?" If they hadn't played it up every five minutes for two hours, it would have been a sweet ending. But it was way overblown.

I got that impression too.
However, they also said that this would be their first time together in public. So maybe they've had some meetings in secret.
Not odd at all though, if it is the first time to be seen together. I'm sure there were clear stipulations that they were not to be seen together until tonight's show.

I gotta say, I liked it. The more I learned about Zora, the more I liked her. And, from what I saw of her life, I'm glad she got the money.
And, any women that gets excited about riding horses, would make my top ten list.
The funniest parts were Sarah trying not to have a stroke after finding out that there was no money.
And Melissa showing her true colors. Hey, you wuz cryin' like a baby after getting dumped. Now you can cry cause you didn't the money either.
The worst part of the whole show was that I didn't get picked to spend a month in a French chateau with 20 women, flying in private jets, sippin' champagne.
FOX, I'm available. :)

Sarah was definitely making the tongue-inside-the-cheek "servicing" motion, and trying to block it from the camera with the socks. It'll be interesting to see if Zora brings that up!
Posted by: walters
They probably had to keep them apart to avoid the risk that things didn't work out (would make for a bad "aftermath" episode).
Posted by: keirgrey
You know, the minute Sarah said "It's my game, I own it" I knew Zora won. Typical of reality shows, remember when Silas on Survivor said "Just write me the check" and was voted off that night?
Posted by: Skittles
Actually, they probably took a page from The Bachelorette, and kept the two apart in order to keep the outcome a secret. That way, no one can see the two lovebirds together and report it to a tabloid.

Except that he was just copying Richard Hatch who said that in the first episode :p

OK. I forgot about that. :p It has become a fairly standard "misdirection" though. The overconfident one tends to lose.

Oh man, I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. When Melissa was talking to Sarah aftwerwards in that porch thing place.... that noise Melissa made was re-used! It was just a second after you saw her do it the first time!!
Then when he told Sarah.. she made the same smile and nod a few times!!! I think they threw silence in there to make it more tense, when probably they were babbling up a storm.
They did this a lot during the show.. made awkward silences... such as when Zora and Sarash were eating... jeez!!!
They really could have done this show a LOT better. During the show they could have shown snippets of the person's life... more interviews spread around...
And what about those clips of people telling Evan off via video at the beginning of the show... they didn't show that at all. Um......
I'm glad Zora got some $$.. I'm sure she'll use it to help people. I hope she figures out he's a bit of a judgemental bafoon.

Least. Shocking. Twist. Ever.
I mean, my god, couldn't they come up with something better? Everybody and his dog had the "if she accepts him anyway, they'll be made millionaires" figured out before the first show ever aired. Of course, this is Fox we're talking about...
Posted by: dthmj
Very disapointed with the "twist"...
I did enjoy how they would put together some of the annoying quirks of some of the women - Mojo's eyebrows, Melissa screaming "Oh My God", Even being a bad shot with a cork...
But they did some very bad editing with Evan's talk to Sarah and Zora when he revealed his choice... With Zora, it was like he had a big build up to dump her, and then all of a sudden "I choose you" out of the blue... If he had done that to me, I would not have come back that night...

Just because YOU are all concerned about having a ton of money does not mean everyone is. She appears to be the kind of person who would be uncomfortable around that much money. That's actually the way she acted throughout the show. I'm sure she appreciates the money they got in the end but I don't think she would want more than that and, like I said before, she is the type that would give most of what she got away.
Posted by: pmyers
I loved the editing where the girl was talking about Evan picking the women based on boob size and they go the the hot tub scene and all their boobs, then there is Evan with this dumb look on his face....that was funny!
Posted by: tonyoci
It was stated in an earlier thread that no person with an ounce of common sense would dump him on TV because he did not have the money. Zora clearly was upset/disappointed but during her walk has time to realize/be told how bad she will look on TV if she does not go back and say all the right things - then dump him afterwards or at some time in the near future. Then they get given money also.
This is not to say that she is lying only that her actions would have been the same either way so how can we tell.

Yeah, but a comment like Sara's "You think that's something I care about?" is such a clear attempt to cover up that, yes she does care about that.
Zora's silence at least didn't have that same air.
Of course, it's all in the editing but we've got to go with what we saw.
In any event, the show was a success for Fox. I think I read that JM got 33% of the market share last night!

This was a hit for fox, but it's tough to have a follow up. Perhaps we could attract 20 more gold digging brainiacs by completely fooling them with the new show from Fox - Jim Millionaire, or 20 hunky geniuses with - Jane Millionaire.
Maybe there could be John Homeless, who is really a millionaire.

I really like the episode. They showed a lot of stuff they didn't show before about the women and some of the editting (like Mojo's eyebrows) was very funny.
I believe Zora. That is a real girl. Those photos in the nursing homes didn't look fake to me (I spent a lot of time in nursing homes over the last four years) and I believe she was uncomfortable with the money; she seemed to be out of place when the money was involved all thru the series. Yes, that could be editting but she did seem pretty genuine. That is why I picked her as the winner weeks ago.
I also liked the acknowledgement of all the rumors and innuendo (like addressing Evan's work history and the re-enacted pictures of Sarah's tie me up photos).
I kind of believe the whole thing, except there are a few coverups (like Sarah trying to act like it didn't matter if he had money nor that it didn't matter that she wasn't picked).
Finally, it was a nice thing Fox did in bringing Melissa back for Sarah. She was the last eliminated before the finals and seemed to be Sarah's friend throughout the show, so it was a natural thing to do. (And not odd that she was there since all the girls got to stay in France during the duration of filming, though not at the chateau.)
Posted by: BeanMeScot
I'm sure they brought Melissa in because they wanted to hear what Sarah would say to her. That worked out like a charm!
Posted by: FLbadgirl
They said for the Aftermath Show that Evan and Zora will see each other for the first time since the finale show. Why?
Why have they been kept apart?
Posted by: tonyoci
Joe (Evan) was on Howard Stern last week. They are kept apart as part of the arrangement so that they are not spotted together and it does not allow them to "break up" prior to the season finale.
He mentioned that they talked on the phone (not saying who of course). He also said that Fox had provided him accomodation until the finale. This has been pretty common with all of the reality series with suprise winners or couples etc.

I was wondering if Sarah was going to bite her tongue off from the expression on her face when Evan tells her that he didn't choose her and he's not rich.
(And you expect me to believe that the money didn't matter to her? Riiiighhhtt.......)
I also felt like some of the other women's comments sounded like sour grapes.
Oh, and Heidi's boyfriend is an idiot....
I wonder if the producers set this up in advance and stacked the deck by having 19 gold diggers and one real woman?
I really wanted to see the reactions of the other women when they found out Evan didn't have 50 Million....

No one ever commented about Sara's smoking. That would be a turn off for me. Kissing a smoker is like licking an ash tray? The only one to make a comment was Zora who said she did not smoke. Ugghh. I don't think Evan smokes.
Another comment. I found it suspicious that his real last name was Marriot. I thought the twist was going to have to do with owning major hotel properties worldwide.
Posted by: FourFourSeven
Did anyone else think that the producers helped Evan AND Zora write their speeches?
Overall, this was probably the least "real" of all the already-not-so-real "reality" shows. However, I found the over-editing to tell the story they wanted to tell extremely amusing. Examples from the series that came to mind:
-Subtitling "slurp" and "gulp" while using stock image of the grounds at night
-Inserting OBVIOUS stock footage of furry animals during the horseriding scenes with Zora
-The aformentioned "awkward silences" and such
Posted by: TheDewAddict
I especially enjoyed the footage they had of Even out on the balcony with the producer. You know, the grainy black and white of him talking with his hands about how the whole thing "eats my brain out". They showed the same footage about 10 different times, each time with different dialogue over it.

Did anybody else notice how shakey Paul's voice was at the end? I had a quick thought that Paul was really Evan's father. That would have been really interesting.

uhh my guess would be that the producers didn't want to risk the possibility of the "Big Surprise" being busted.
That would be a pretty big loss if EVERYONE in the world knew who he picked don't ya think?
I'm sure it was in an agreement that they couldn't see each other until after the show.

That would make Zora Evan's sister. But who is Palpatine?

Boy, I thought I was cynical about television!
It was clear from the beginning that they were setting us up to like Zora and dislike the others... this is how all "reality" TV works, after all. Take Survivor - assume they shoot 20 hours a day for 39 days... thats 780 hours of footage, of which we get to see about 8 hours total (once you back out commercials and nature shots). The producers take that 1% and make entertainment out of it... drama, fighting, romances, conniving, you know the drill. Everything is chopped, sliced, and rearranged to make a story. Especially since it's done after the fact, they can lead us by the nose to whatever conclusions they want. We aren't seeing reality, we're seeing the story thread the producers want us to see.
I detest most of the Fox reality crap, but Joe Millionaire was original and amusing and had some good "characters." Sure, they manipulated us into thinking Zora was an underdog... they also manipulated us into thinking she is Cinderella! That's entertainment. They got lucky and had a good story to weave from the people and events. The twist was very fitting and not dramatic enough to merit all the hype it received, I agree; it would have been more effective if it had been a total surprise.

Was I the only one who thought that when Zora said that the only thing she didn't like about Evan was the fact that he'd inherited $50 million that she meant that she didn't like the fact that he'd *inherited* it, as opposed to earning it himself? If she wouldn't like a guy just because he's wealthy, then why was she there to begin with?
Posted by: Jayjoans
C'mon, we all know Sarah gave him a "gift" too, and she thought that'd seal the deal. This is why she said she was so "p**sed off" to Melissa. The editors tried to play it off that she was embarrassed to have kissed him C'MON! Everybody kissed him! Did you see Melissa's reaction? She was surprised......surprised that Sarah kissed him? I think not. Are we to think that Sarah was honestly upset that she kissed the guy? No, she was embarrassed and p o'd that she had taken him into the bushes and "glurped and slurped" just like the subtitles read, and in the end he told her he was broke and didn't pick her! LOL (remember in the hotel with Sarah when she went to his room "don't take your pants off yet") I would rather be Mojo with that LAME puzzle and poem than Sarah left with a bad taste in her mouth :-)
I bet when Zora saw this show she knew what was up. see ya dude.

That's what I'm wondering, too. Obviously, the producers wanted Evan to pick someone likeable, but how could they have ensured that she'd continue getting necklaces? I wonder if they talked with Evan each time before he made his decision, to try to influence his vote....sort of like what Stacey the lawyer accused Mark Burnett of doing during Survivor 1.
I also thought it was very telling of Sarah when she was talking to Melissa out on the balcony and made fun of Evan for being a "loser with no money."

They did not know that he supposedly inherited money until after they got there. Zora said herself she had a little over $100 in the bank. I think she needed the money. They do get paid for the time they are there. One of the girls even commented about the stipend.
Evan was talking over his decisions with Paul. Paul could have helped to lead him in Zora's direction. Sarah and Zora were so completely different. There are girls that you date, and girls that you take home to your parents and marry. He had one of each in the end.

What a complete piece of crap! This was the biggest bust in the history of reality TV show finales. So so boring, with commercial break upon commercial break preceded by "don't forget about the exciting twist." All I was thinking after the ultra-predictable "twist" is that I can't believe FOX just wasted a million on this.
IMO, they should have taken last week's episode, this week's two hour episode, and next week's episode, added them all together, and made them into one two-hour finale. Instead, they dragged the finale across four hours and three weeks, and in the process I totally lost interest. After waiting that long, I ended up fast-forwarding through things like watching their walks to the ballroom for the second time.

Yes, you guys totally hit the nail on the head. The video and even more so the sound editing on this show were horrible. Very very amateur. Whenever you would hear a voice over, it was painfully obvious that sentence fragments had been spliced together to create new sentences. Even though it allows them to take things out of context and change the meaning, I have no problem with them doing this if it makes for good TV, just don't make it so obvious.
And those awkward silences. C'mon FOX, that was laughably bad. Last night there were multiple times, especially with Evan and Zora in the ballroom, that you could tell the real conversation was probably seamless but where the so-called "editors" pasted in shots of speechless Evan and Zora with funny looks on their faces.
Yeah yeah, I know, this isn't the first reality show to do this, but the editing on this show was just so bad that it was more obvious and annoying this time. It even seemed like they rearranged his closing speeches to the women. I'm paraphrasing here, "Sara, I really like you, and we had such a great time together, and that's why what I'm going to say is going to come as such a shock--" cut-paste <awkward silence> cut-paste "I'm not a millionaire." Hmm, I sure thought he was going to say he didn't choose her there, and he probably did, but it was cut and pasted to later in the conversation. At least they were wearing the same outfits through the whole conversation. Oh, wait a sec! Did anyone notice when they showed Evan getting dressed he put on a white dress shirt and black tie, but then supposedly moments later in the ballroom he was wearing a blue shirt? Hmm....
Okay, I'll stop my silly rant now. I was just pissed because I was actually looking forward to this finale, and to me it was just a waste of time. The only good moments were the Mojo eyebrows and the Melissa M. "oh my gods." After watching this, I watched the Celebrity Mole finale, and while I didn't think that show was anything to write home about, the finale was done well. It wasn't long, painfully drawn out, and boring. Instead, there was very little filler, you didn't have commercial breaks at every single suspenseful moment, and it was very entertaining and funny. This made the Joe Millionaire finale just seem like a bad dream.

Both. He stuck with her while she took off to go on a Bachelor type show and now sticks around even though he should know by now that she's a gold digger and an admitted manipulator.
In other news, it looks like Zora is having problems adjusting to her new found fame...

Hmmmm, looks like Fox may do a Joe Millionaire sequel:

I wonder how on earth they're going to pull that off?!!

Something that (I think ) no one has mentioned yet…
Zora seems pretty straight-laced. So. How do you think she's going to feel once she sees the infamous "slurp-and-gulp" scene of Evan with Sarah? Think that might dim Evan's aura a tad for Zora?
Now, showing Zora's face as she watched that clip for the first time (with Evan sitting next to her) would be some good television!

Come on people - the entire slurp-and-gulp thing was a setup by the producers. Do you really think they would leave their microphones on? They both might be dumb, but not that dumb. Total fabrication.

This isn't from the best source but this should spice things up for Zora.
Sexy secret past

Care to share some hints? :D (A quick scan of the usual suspects turned up nothing.)

Nothing surprises me anymore. We need a smiley to show utter ennui.

Zora was on Regis this morning and she is very cute with a great body. She also seemed very nice. So where are the pics anyway??

Ok, ok. Some people PM'd me for the info. ;)
Without getting into any trouble for posting a link to a site lets just say that deansplanetdotcom has what you are seeking. It's not that big of a deal, no nudity.
