TiVo freezing, need to reboot daily

Hello, I have the original Phillips 14 hour unit with a second 60GB hard drive installed with the lifetime service. Also, last month, my modem took a crap, so I am also using a TurboNet card. This probably has nothing to do with my problem, but since installing the TurboNet, I have not had the case on the unit (it is in my component rack).

Now, on to the problem. My TiVo unit over the last couple of days has starting freezing daily. Power cycling the unit solves the problem, and it seems to also be able to power cycle itself if I am not present (last night it did, as one of my recordings was broken into two sections). Sometimes I will be watching it, and everything starts getting slow (menus, remote response, etc), until finally it just doesn't respond. I am pretty computer literate. and it is acting like a process is hanging, bringing the entire system to a near halt.

My initial response was to let it go, I thought it was just churning the hard drives, and it would catch up with itself. However, that never happened, it just hung. i really like the idea that the unit will reboot itself, but I am missing quite a bit of material (as it is frozen, locked, etc).

Does anybody have any idea what is going on? If I can't get it fixed, I will go ahead and do the upgrade and lifetime subscription transfer, but with everything that I have put into this one, I would like to not have to spend another $400.

Thanks for any help,

Robby

Robby,

If you know how, you should do a backup and restore to a new drive ASAP. You likely have a dying drive - but if you can get the software off the drives intact, you'll be OK.

Thanks Michael, but I think I have solved the problem simply by putting the cover back on. At least it has lasted for more than a day now. Without the cover on, the proper air flow was not there, and the temperature reading was inaccurate. I think if it makes it past tonight, I think I should be in good shape.
