tivo freeze???

Hello,
I have succesfully upgraded my tivo almost a year ago.
Yet since last week, my Tivo seems to freeze, remote not responding. Only way is to unplug the electrical plug.
I think that this happens when It tries to unpack something that it downloaded, because I could reproduce the problem by forcing a daily call.
After a few forces it seemed to work for 2 days, but last night it froze again, and upon reboot is stuck at the wait for a few second banner....
Any ideas what's going on?
Tivo is now part of the family, any info to solve the problem is important!!!

BTW it is a tivo ATT serie 2

This set of problems could indicate any of a number of problems. Given that forcing a call produces a failure, it might be a modem-related issue. It could be the begining of a hard drive failure, but you would probably expect to see additional video errors sich as dropped frames and pixelated images. It's unlikely that the software is damaged since a duplicate set is stored on the drive and alternately booted on reboots. Finally, it could be a generalized motherboard fault.

With all of these possibilities in mind, the easiest to address is the hard drive error. If you have a >30 GB hard drive sitting around you might try using the Hinsdale How-To to produce a new TiVo drive and see if that resolves your problems. Otherwise, you might consider a TurboNet card to replace your modem. Have you run a phone call diagnostic?

Well, came back to work and fired up the tivo and it went fast to the green screen, asking me to wait for about 3 hrs. I am now in the first 1hrs....
Any idea if the 3 hrs goes up to more like 5-10-15 hrs maybe if the total drive capacity has changed from the original 40, or it does not matter, it should be done within 3hrs?
Any way of finding out which disk is at fault?
Is he just marking bad blocks?

BTW: the problem occured as it was unzipping what it downloaded from the phone. Maybe some bad sectors?
thanks
