exporting program from TiVo to computer

Hi,
I looked in the back of my TiVo series 2 and noticed a USB port there. Is there a way to directly send the TiVo programs from my TiVo to my computer? (USB to firewire?)
-If so, how?
-If not, I know I can save TiVo programs to a VCR tape. So my next question is how can I export the VCR tape's analog video signal, convert it to a digital signal and then import/capture it on my computer?
Are there devices out there which convert this analog signal to digital signal to then be uploaded via firewire onto my laptop? (I know I may be able to do it by using a digital camera, however I don't have one. I'm looking for a standalone device that will convert the signal)
thanks,
matt

Sorry, but exporting programs out to any other means is not allowed in this forum, only to VHS tapes.

There's no easy way to digitally transfer Tivo files to your computer. But you can certainly transfer your files to your computer using an A/V input card with analog video inputs. Some digital camcorders also make it easy to convert analog video to digital which you can transfer using the camcorder's Firewire (IEEE1394) interface into your PC. Also, some folks here have purchased stand-alone DVD recorders to record their Tivo programs onto DVD.

Not 100% true. As mentioned above, you can copy TiVo programming to any device that accepts its AV outputs. We just don't discuss any file copy methods or "digital extraction."
Bear in mind that any Macrovision encoded programming, although viewable on TiVo, will be accordingly distorted when copied from TiVo to another medium.
