I'm not watching 7th Heaven anymore! (spoilers)

I have suffered through this entire season watching Lucy make a fool of herself while she gets jealous all the time and flip flops on wondering if Kevin loves her or not...
So I was fairly happy when she got engaged and it appeared to be a fairly quick engagement. This past episode showed her in a fairly good light - I thought psycho Lucy was behind us.... But no, looking at the previews for next week it appears she is up to her old tricks again.
Don't the writers have at least one brain cell between them? Surely they get bored writing this crap?
I suppose Eric is going to decide not to go back to the church next week as well... The deacons/elders whatever they call them need to boot his freeloading butt out of that house if he's not going to be their minister anymore and let Chandler - I'll love any girl that blinks- move in.
The writing is sooooo poor this season.... Maybe it started going downhill last year when they had Matt marry the Jewish girl...

I totally agree, and have pretty much given up on this show.
My wife still watches it, so I'm keeping a casual interest, mostly for the eye-candy!

Besides that, Kevin is such an ass to Lucy anyway. He's incredibly judgemental of her and makes her do all of the compromising. He never bends and she just takes it. That definately isn't an example of a healthy relationship.
And does anybody else wonder who is paying the bills in that house? Eric's not working....living in a house that is paid for by the church and no one else works.
And the whole Simon/thief thing....saw that one coming a mile away.

Walter (the thief) will be back and up to no good. Count on it. It'll be a 7th Heaven/Law & Order crossover. :D
All I want to know is, will Ben get lucky with Paris (the single soccer mom) before he goes back to Buffalo?
Actually, I do want to know something else -- could there be anyone more intensely annoying than Lucy? And does everybody in that town act like they're still in junior high?
And one last question -- how on Earth did I wind up watching this series?

Totally agree this show has jumped the shark. I don't know if it was the birth of the twins (adding new characters as the existing kids age), Mary going to Buffalo, Mary going to Florida, Matt getting married and going to medical school, or the Rev having a heart attack or the Rev having open heart surgery. To the writers credit, they have lost several main characters in the past year or two. But the Kevin/Ben/Roxanne/Chandler new characters just don't cut it, IMVHO. This show used to be about a family. Now it's a second-rate night-time soap. That said, I still watch it every week. But it's one of those that I hope the producers wake up and realize they've milked this one for all it's worth and cancel it with a big finale.

And what happened to Robby?
He was one of the new characters I liked... I can't stand Roxanne, Kevin, or Ben... The jury is still out on Chandler...
I see a spinoff coming... "The Promenad" Follow the lives of shallow early 20-somethings as they bounce from relationship to relationship until they end up marrying their own sibling...
[edit]
Oh, it may have jumped the shark with Matt's wedding, though I found it rather entertaining... But very unrealistic in two people very devout in their very different religions marrying like that (after all, theoretically Matt believes Sarah is going to hell when she dies...)
But it definantly jumped the shark with Eric's heart surgery.

And I was thinking it was just me:)! This show has become a train wreck this season.
The writers have totally changed the character of Lucy over the last few years from a mature thoughtful wise-beyond-her-years teen to an immature whiny self centered woman.
I can't see why a character like Kevin, who is definitely an ADULT would have any interest in her, she acts like she is 14 years old.
I always got a kick out of running the budget for that household.:) I agree Eric needs to get back to work or find a way to support his family. I lost track, does the wife even work?
Now I'll admit that I am a BBW myself, so this is not really a judgment:) but just an observation that the mother, Catherine Hicks has gained some major weight the last few years. She looks as if she has put on 50 lbs. She looks pretty bad next to Stephen Collins who is in good shape. There's an episode there:)!

Holy crow, how many "regulars" do they have on this show now? Too many characters competing for screen/story time means disaster.
I whacked the SP after 1 or 2 episodes this season. Each episode was blending into the next.
I actually think the show used to be fairly funny/clever/heartwarming/etc. without being too "warm and fuzzy". Now they just pound you over the head with issues.

Once Jessica Biel left, they needed a bad girl in the family. So Lucy had to step up and go nuts. Of course, Ruthie had to take Lucy's old role as the wise-beyond-her-years girl.
Basically, the characters have to fit the archetypes, not the other way around.
Rumor has it that the actor who plays Robbie apparently did something bad in real life and was taken off the show. I think they explained Robbie's absence by sending him to reconcile with his ex-girlfriend.
Catherine Hicks definitely has gained weight.

He went to Florida I think, because his mom was sick.

Robbie went to Florida, or the actor who played him went to Florida?

That was the reason they gave for his disappearance on the show. :) I have no idea what happened to the actor.
As an aside, I was reading that the actor who plays Simon is also leaving this season. I wonder how they'll explain away his exit, he's not graduating from high school yet I don't think...
EDIT: David Gallagher (Simon) is apparantly leaving to attend college in real life, but I did not find any rumors about how they'll explain his absence.

Could be Walter, the thief, will do a very bad thing to Simon.

If this is how he leaves, then the show has not only jumped the shark, it will have jumped every shark in F'ing history.

I'm curious if there has been a change in writers in the show in recent seasons. After all, the characters are fictional but behind them are writers getting paid the big bucks:) who think these characters' behaviors are sympathetic and interesting as opposed to obnoxious. LOL
The show used to be fairly touching in the early years when it focused on the family unit. Now it's more like watching a Mystery Science Theater episode where I find myself making little comments on the implausability of the scenes.:)
My vote for Most Obnoxious Scene of 2002-03 season is when Lucy started whining to her father about whether Kevin asked him for her hand, as Rev Camden was coming out of general anesthesia in Cardiac ICU after having his bypass operation. That was real class:).

This show is driving me crazy too and I have no idea why I keep watching it. First of all, Lucy is like what, 20 years old and she's dying to get married and her parents are dying for her to get married? That's crazy. I think most parents would be killing their daughter if they wanted to get married at 20. I don't even know why anyone would want to get married at 20 anyway. Lucy and kevin are completely annoying too, all they do every single week is fight. There's no way these two people would be getting married. Second, Chandler and Roxanne have been dating for about a month and they're already in love and ready to get married? What's wrong with these people? This show is nuts, I really need to stop watching it but I can't.

Yeah! I'm not watching 7th Heaven anymore either!
Wait, I don't watch it now..... ;)
(sorry couldn't resist)
Actually, I did catch about half a season or so of it in the pre-TiVo days when it was the lead in for Angel (now that was a weird pairing). From reading this thread, it sounds like the show is total unrecognizable. Sounds more like Melrose Place or Dawson's Creek now....

Ok, so I am like a rubbernecker who can't help butstare at a wreck. As much as we complain, did anyone watch the show this past Monday? It was so bad it was laughable.:) Still, I keep watching.:)
Kevin finally gets one moment of rationality and wants to postphone the wedding because his child bride Lucy is obviously not ready to get married. Lucy panics when she hears this and just tells him, oh ok, I will work it out and budget my time better, Kevin-oh ok!:)
LOL I still think the two of them together look like a 30 year old man with a 14 year old girl. Change her name to Myra Lewis:) She is supposed to be 19 or 20? She acts like a child.
And the other subplot of Simon and the girlfriend talking about how they can't have sex and then deciding to just "accept it". Can they milk that out any more?:)
And the same old scene with the toddler twin boys repeating what the grownups say!!!!
Who takes care of those twin toddlers and Ruthie all day? None of the parents or the older kids seem to be home on a regular basis.:)

Hey, this is a family board! :D
Thankfully, I've never had much desire to watch this show. I've seen the heart attack episode, and that's pretty much it.
Posted by: chloejackson
Which heart attack episode? I think the dad (Stephen Collins) had a heart attack in an earlier season.
Then this season they decided to have him undergo bypass surgery. That might have been a valid plot point for that character, but the writers ruined it by having a ridiculous long video scene where Collins imitated Elvis for half the show while under general anesthesia. (People don't dream while under general anesthesia, guess they forget to fact check that.:))
The point to that appeared to be just to feature Collins' musical abilities. Every so often, we have to be reminded that Collins is a musician.

The earlier one. Wasn't bad, but I see too many weepy feel good shows already.
Posted by: chloejackson
Yeah, the original heart attack was in one of the earlier seasons. It was touching. That was back when the show was focused on the family and had realistic plots. The show has really gone on a bit too long. The plots are laughable (in an earlier post, I said it's like on Mystery Science Theater, watching a an inane movie and making jokes about it). They have also introduced too many peripheral characters who get way too much air time.

I think introducing Bo Derek as Kevin's mother and having his 23-year-old brother, Ben, make out with Ruthie's boyfriend's single mother for Valentine's Day was pure shark-jumping.
But it's a guilty pleasure, just like Baywatch Hawaii, when the episodes were virtually plot-free! (And why oh why didn't they bring back Simone MacKennon for the 2-hour movie?!)

I've never really liked this show, but my mom has been watching it from the beginning, when going from my room to the kitchen I see a few parts now and then. That show is so bogus! I'm 17, and nothing that's in that show is anything how real life is like as a young adult. We do, do other things then blab on the phone all day and gossip. And plus I don't like the mother. I'll never forget the time I was passing by the living room tv and the mother overhead the blonde dip tell the otherone 'I don't wanna be just mom', and then Anne (think that's her name) get's all mad and upset about it. Well guess what, people have their own lives and shouldn't be just like anyone else. This show is way too touvhy feely for me :)
Posted by: chloejackson
Thanks for the teen perspective, Steve M.:) I am about the age of the parents (46) and don't have kids, but I never did think that the children's behavior was realistic. As far as the Mom, what exactly does she do all day? She doesn't take care of the kids and she doesn't work (or does she, she keeps going back and forth between college and teaching and quitting and teaching and quitting). LOL
I also never bought that idea that her only concern with Breadwinner Dad quitting his cushy perk-laden minister gig was that he'd miss the ministry. I always thought she was panicking that they'd lose his salary and she'd have to work to support, let me count, eight people, nine counting Kevin.
Is Kevin, the garage apartment tenant/chaste future soninlaw/cop the only one in that whole household who has any income?:)

That wasn't jumping the shark, that was being eaten by it...

Am I the only 7th Heaven fan in America to think (or notice) that the actress, Mackenzie Rosman, who plays Ruthie is biracial? My husband says he doesn't see it, but from the first episode my thought was that she must be half Caucasian and half African-American. I thought perhaps her character was adopted but in the episode where the twins are born, they make reference to the mother giving birth to her.
I looked up her info on the internet and her PR says she has "some Cherokee Indian background". Not that there is anything wrong with that, but the casting seemed odd with both parents and the other children all being very fair and blonde or light brunette. She really doesn't resemble any of the other cast members in the slightest.

Huh? Neither Matt, nor Lucy, nor Mary are blonde...naturally anyway. Matt's hair was very dark, and I wouldn't really call Lucy or Mary's natural color light brunette...maybe medium at most. Eric isn't really all that light haired either, what there is left of it. :)

It must just be me:) As I said, my husband doesn't see it at all.
Posted by: Steve Mehs
LOL Chloejackson :)
You're not the only one that saw it. I noticed Ruthie's darker complexion when the show first started and my mom first started watching it. I thought she'd eventually 'grow out' of it, as hair and skin tones can change over time.
Posted by: chloejackson
To me it isn't even so much her hair color but her skin tone which is very dark. She's a pretty young lady, but I never thought she was 100% Caucasian. Again, that's cool, but just striking in that the other eight cast members playing her family are. I think it stands out in the annual cast photos that they take as much as it does on the show.
Of course, casting should be color blind so it doesn't matter.
As I said, my husband doesn't see it, but like you, my mother commented on it also.
