The Shield "Scar Tissue" (Spoilers)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

WOW, I really liked tonights episode. This show just doesnt really miss. Anyone see Amadillio's death coming tonight at all? I didn't. Too bad for Danny though. This just aint her time right now. The shooting, the widow, the promotion, and tonight the knife. I do like how the writers are playing her character.. twisting her in different directions. Confidence, then doubt. The detective subplot only furthers her indecision. Then of course the incident with Dutch. Glad that sorta thing has never happened to me. Glad Ronnie wasnt actually dead, too many deaths lately. However, him being out of commission for awhile will further the new Strike Team member subplot along. Too bad next week is the "Co-pilot" episode. I want season two to keep moving right along! :)

I agree completely. This show never seems to have an off night. Everybody was on tonight. The actors, the writers, the direction, everything was perfect.

Vic finally got some from the hot social worker lady. :)

This episode tied things up fairly well. Now that Armadillo is out of the picture, and Claudette seems to have given up on catching Vic, (for now at least) there's only two things left; Danny's continued troubles, and Jullian's wedding. If they wanted to do a flashback ep, now is as good a time as any. Anyone know how many episodes are left?

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

Five more episodes. There IS still the Money Train, the new member of the squad, and Vic's home troubles. [Edit: Oops, I forgot, there's also a major vacuum in the local drug business that will need to be filled, and Vic's need to reinsert himself into the business with Claudette and Acevedo watching him. So there's still plenty going on, with only four episodes (not counting the flashback) to go!]

I saw Armadillo's death coming the instant that guy started talking wistfully about how much he misses prison life. It was such a jarring comment that I thought about what they could possibly be up to with it, and that led me directly to what happened.

Even though it means we go through withdrawl for 3/4 of a year, one of the reasons the Shield is never off is that they only do 13 or so eps a year. It seems like the HBO model is best for putting out quality shows, and FX seems to be copying that to the extent that they can.

Posted by: tonyoci

I was very suprised by what happened to Armadillo. I was most impressed that Shane finally did something "right" and came up with this himself.

Can someone explain exactly what next weeks co-pilot is ? I did not watch the "next week on The Shield" section but caught the end of an ad for next weeks show later.

5 weeks left allows us to wrap up a couple of stories and setup the cliffhanger for next season.

Did anyone else notice the strange video quality around the time that Shane was throwing witnesses down the stairs.

Next week's "Co-Pilot" episode is being billed as the "First day at The Barn". I think they want to show us that Mackey was once a good cop that went bad through one or two incidents.

Posted by: beldar

If you can wade through all the animations and other browser-hostile stuff, the fxnetworks The Shield website has episode summaries and promos.

Posted by: Fleegle

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioning Mackey saying how he has to get 'back to basics'. I think that's why they're showing Day One next week. They're going to show where Mackey used to be and where he's trying to get back to. This whole thing with Armadillo really got to him.

[satire]HEY, YOU MORON, WHERE ARE THE SPOILER TAGS?!?[/satire]

But is next weeks episode a new one.

Have we seen it before ?

Has it been recently made or is it an old episode we have never seen before

Is it a "clip show"

Help me please

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

It is a new episode, telling how Vic came to the precinct before the pilot (title: Co-Pilot, hee hee), and bringing back actors from last year.

Posted by: VegasVic

Hmmm a flashback episode. Maybe they can use old clips from The Commish :)

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen a picture of him from that show. He was pretty pudgy back then wasn't he?

Posted by: MalachiNY

Think thats funny ... they just showed him on his Seinfeld appearance a few nights ago.

I really do not like that Auditor lady!... shes a "Bee with an Itch" if you ask me.

She said the Strike Team was going to be backed up by some "squad" until Armadillo was caught ... think that still stands? ... will she be back?

One of the best things about this show show is the raw edged cinematography ... makes you feel your right there with them

The scene where they are talking in the alley/parking garage @ the barn the camera angles were astouding ... my wife even thoought someone was spying on them grom a balcony ... i personally like the shot between Lemon & Shanes heads @ Vic ... Gives the illusion of tanding right there behind them <as part of the Team>.

Hands down ... BEST SHOW ON TV !!!

This flashback episode coming up, "Day One", is new material. It's sort of a prequel to the series.

That weird video quality when the guy was getting thrown down the stairs is used a lot in the series when there's action scenes. It's almost a strobe effect. I believe they do it by using very fast film in the camera. The opening fight scene in the movie "Gladiator" was similar to it. With normal speed film, you get motion blur. These scenes don't have the motion blur giving an almost strobe-like, jerky quality to the picture. The only thing I can think of is that the film and shutter speed is just very fast.

I think Claudette is by far my favorite character. She is just so cool! You can almost hear those gears turning in her mind.

Claudette: The scars on his face match Ron's
Vic: It's an ugly world.
Claudette (looking at Vic): More and more!

She's just too cool!

All in all she is a great character ... I just do not like her "vendetta" for Vic or Acaveda for that matter. I wouldnt want her 'hawkin' me if I was Vic. In the 1st season she was OK w/ Vics "style" of work.

What she doesnt like is that Vic was on the take w/ Tio ($$$). She knows but cant prove it.

I like her ... just not when shes after my fav. --- VIC! <of course>

"Check out the big brain on SHANE" ... good job

Um ... Dutch is now the "Ladys Man"? ... hehehehe

Everyone complains how other shows aren't realistic, but this one gets a pass. In all other threads you read.... how can Sydney Bristow do this or how why is it possible for Jack Bauer blah blah blah? And I won't even bring up Enterprise and how that show is picked apart week after week. Yet The Shield has the most unrealistic storyline of them all...............

How is it possible that a babe like Danny can't get laid?

See, that's what I like about her. I'm glad she's going after Vic. Vic is a scumbag. He's no better than the people he locks up. Face it, in the very first show, he killed another cop in cold blood only because that cop was going to get him in trouble. Danny just got suspended because Vic's goons decided to sacrifice her career to keep Vic out of trouble. And Vic doesn't seem to have a problem with that, even though he's supposed to care about Danny. Why should anybody be upset that a police officer is going after someone who is basically just a murderer/lier/cheater?

Big brain? I got lost with that one.

I know that I myself don't necessarily find the show to be realistic. But that's what I like about it. I have realism all around me every day, by 10:00pm, I'm ready for some fantasy and drama. ;)

Hmmm. I never really thought of Danny as a "babe". I'll have to look more closely at her. On the other hand, her partner is a total babe! ;)

"Check out the big brain on Brett!" Pulp Fiction, shortly before Brett's untimely demise.

Check out the big brain on Medieval Guy!

LOL :D

Posted by: MalachiNY

I realize Vic isnt a great guy ... but as far as the character he plays ... I dont like it when someone as intelligant & "Ball-Z" as Claudette goes after the "character" I like the most ... It gives me "ajada <sp?>" ... trust me in real life I'd want him stopped ... but as far as of fictional TV show I want him as un-hindered as he can be.

Now ... that said ... the whole Claudette/Vic storyline line DOES/DID make for great TV. Im just glad it over ... or is it?

The "Big Brain on Shane" meant also ... that he thought about the "outta prison latino" who wanted to go back in <where he had respect> ... & put him in the cage where Armadillo was ... it was even smart to have someone else <shame it was Danny> make the arrest.

BIG BRAIN!!!

Posted by: bobcarn

Ajada? adjada? I'm not sure of that one either! :p

I think what I like about the Claudette/Vic relationship is not only that she was going after Vic, but that you could see he sees her as a real threat. He also respects her a great deal, so I'm sure he's finding himself between a rock and a hard place. I don't believe for a second that she'll ever actually "get" Vic, because he's the main character, and then there would be no show. That's why I like her going after him so much. His character will continue to get away with stuff until they decide to end the series, so you need to have some kind of force working against him so that he's not just a total scumbag without any obstacles whatsoever.

At this point, I don't think she's going after him any more. She knows everything that happened (she figured it out quite well), and also knows that it's pretty much over and not worth pursuing. Her speech to Vic at the end pretty much summed that all up. And Vic knows that there's just no B.S.ing someone of her caliber, which is why he kept quiet. It was a great moment!

WOW!

Finally got home tonight and had a chance to sit down and watch this week's episode. I feel bad for having been forced to spend an extra 2 days in waiting in order to watch this gem. What an awesome episode! I also didn't see Armadillo's death coming. The whole Danny subplot is being spun quite nicely, and I'm interested to see how it turns out. I'd offer my vote for "best of season", but it seems the episodes are steadily increasing in quality.

The prequel episode looks really good, despite its predestined outcome.

Hear hear :) Claudette is easily my favorite character of the show.

Does anybody know who sang the song at the end of the episode? I checked the credits and the official FX website, but found nothing.

Great episode! I'm really curious to see what Vic means by "back to the basics." I don't for one moment believe the upcoming prequel is just filler. I believe it will tie in closely to the last 4 episodes.

If I Ever Leave This World Alive -- Flogging Molly

The upcoming "Co-Pilot" episode immediately reminded me that most of the actors in the show are credited on imdb.com as playing their "Shield" characters in a movie called "The Barn" which I've never seen broadcast. I wonder if they're just using that unaired movie edited down to an episode or two. That would explain why Gilroy is in it.

It's amusing for me to see people discussing whether Vick Mackey is a good guy or not. For me, one of the great features of the show is how his character is right on the edge of this issue. I seem to go back and forth on this depending on the episode, or what he's doing in the episode.

The Barn was the original name of the show. Late in the production it was changed to The Shield. It was filmed to be an episodic TV show. (yes, I'm a commentary geek)

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

As for Gilroy, he's in the following episode as well, so we don't need "file footage" to explain his presence in Co-Pilot.

Hmmm, I'm thinking she might be the minority member forced on the group. She's kind of got Acevado over a barrel and could really become pushy.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

I don't think she has the temperment to be a Strike Force member...even in their official capacity, they need to be pretty tough hombres.

Posted by: MannyVjr

Loved the episode. Hated to see Armadillo die. That was the only bad guy that really got Vic by the cojones. A worthy adversary that almost got away with it.

The next episode. I'm confused about something. In the "real" pilot, wasn't Aceveda's first day in the barn or I'm confused? Yet in this episode he's there, and it's supposed to be Vic (or the Strike Team's) first day.

Am I wrong or super wrong?

Unless Aceveda's appearance is that he's checking out his soon to be new department.

About Vic "getting his life back in order"

It seems to be that this money train hall would be huge for the strike team, and maybe they think that it can be the last dishonest thing they do, and go back to being on the level cops.

I also felt that the guy who said he wanted to get back in the joint would kill Armadillo. Armadillo had to die, and it was going to be soon, so i figured that would be the way.

It was weird, because you almost didn't believe your ears when he said he wanted to go back inside to get respect back, that's a new one for me.

I don't think so. The pilot starts out with him giving a press conference about some of the recent improvements in crime made in Farmington, and I think it implies that he's been there for at least a short while.

I could never tell, because when Jules (Sam Jackson) says it, it sounds like Brad. But another time the name comes up it sounds more like Brett. FWIW, the IMDB listing has it as Brett.
