So I have my good old original Tivo WITH lifetime service. It has served me well for years. I recently purchased BUT HAVEN'T INSTALLED a 120GB Hard Drive and a TivoNet board. Now I see this great promotion, if I buy a new Tivo unit I get my LIFETIME service transferred to the newer unit. What is a guy to do? That is a tough offer! Do I really get that much more out of the TV2 to justify the expense? Once I upgrade my existing TV1 I will have more storage space then I can fill up and with the TivoNet and TivoWeb I can program the unit remote. What to DO! What are most people doing?
THanks..

It's a personal decision. Do what's best for you. :)
I choose to keep my 'good old original TiVo.'

I chose to move from two Stand Alone Series 1 machines (family room 200 hours, and the kid's loft 100 hours) to three SA Series 2 machines (adding one in the bedroom). That way I can get the home media option when it becomes available.
I want to use the HMO be able to record something on one TiVo and watch that program on another TiVo. I'm anticipating that this will be nice if someone is monopolizing the family room TiVo, I can go in the bedroom or the kid's loft and use that TiVo to watch some of the other shows that were recorded on the family room TiVo.

I can see in a multi-room set-up how cool it would be, I am a single room, well, actually a multi room but I broadcast Tivo out to other rooms so I only need one unit. I also of an Audio (which I just bought) to handle all MP3 playback. The two things I really like are the digital photos (really like this capability) and the remote scheduling feature. BUT, I hear you can remote schedule with TivoWEB and the TurboNET card so I am sort of set there. Hmm, what to do.. If all the above is true then in essence I would be paying $400.00 for a picture viewer which isn't real bright.. The debate continues.. :D

Maybe another option for you - sell the SA with Lifetime on ebay (gets you about $400-$500) and get 2 S2 DTivos (about $199 each) - you get 4 tuners for the price of one and the monthly cost for tivo is $5. Of course you need DirecTV service. I did not even mention recording quality that makes SA's look like complete crap.
Just an idea.
