Home Media Option Price?

I'm trying to pin down the price of the Home Media Option. On the FAQ, they say ...

quote:

Is there a cost associated with Home Media Option?

Yes. The Home Media Option package requires a one-time registration fee of $99 for the first TiVo Series2 DVR. Each additional TiVo Series2 DVR in the home you'd like to add to your home network will be charged a one-time registration fee of $49.

Is this "on top of" or "instead of" the regular TiVo subscription? In particular, if I purchase a second TiVo, will I need to pay just a one-time $49 for this machine, or do I have to purchase a regular monthly, yearly, or lifetime subscription for this also?

Thanks for any information.

Shannon

The prices for HMO are over-and-above the cost of subscription on the units. You must have purchased either monthly or lifetime subs for each unit (no discount for multiple units), then it is $99 for first HMO-enabled Tivo and $49 for each subsequent unit in the household.

Hope that helps.

It sounds like a very nice option. I just wish it wasn't that pricey.

I don't have a problem with the $99 to activate HMO and will sign up soon as it's released. I will be discouraged though if HMO is not transferable to a new TiVo if I upgrade.

TiVo has not yet determined how HMO will work in that respect - whether it will be tied to an "account" and would be transferable, or whether it will be tied to a "unit" and not be transferable. I'm sure they'll tell us before we are able to actually buy it (which is still scheduled for ~April, AFAIK).
