DOH! Don't forget to plug the fan back in!

I was truly amazed at how quiet my Sony SAT-T60 was after putting in the new hard drive. So, so quiet. Actually it was silent. And then it hit me - DOH!! I forgot to plug the fan back in to the system board!
So if your TiVo is extra special quiet after you finish your upgrade, did you remember to plug the fan back in?
Hopefully this message helps save someone's TiVo from melting ;-)

Don't feel bad ... this seems to happen a lot!

Yup - we see that a lot also. Its nice that in all the newer generation Series 2 units (except the Sony) that the fan doesn't have to be disconnected to get the drives out.
But don't worry even if you make the mistake. The TiVo has an internal thermometer and if it gets too hot, it shuts itself down - so you likely can't hurt the TiVo or the drives.

You have NO idea how grateful I am that you mentioned this. I did my upgrade last night and decided to check the temp this morning (I turned it off overnight thankfully), but after I plugged it in this morning and ran the guided setup, it was registering at 57C! Took the case back off, and sure enough - the fan was unplugged. Egad..
If I hadn't seen this thread, I probably wouldn't have thought of it. Right now it's sailing at about 44-46C.

Been there. Done that.

This must not be an issue with SA Series 1 TiVo's?? I've never had to mess with a fan while doing an upgrade. :)

Hmmmm... you may be right. I don't remember ever having to do this with Series 1 as well. Having just got my S2, I don't think the video quality is quite as good as the S1 either.
