I was thinking it would be cool if Tivo got weather updates when it calls in for the daily call. Would anyone else want this feature?

I don't think I'd want to rely on weather reports that are 28 hours out of date. I have plenty of other means to have more current forecasts on hand.

I agree with futerfas and here is why:

I think that a weather module would be useful to not just show current weather conditions, local radar, and forecasts; but to could also provide alerts. For instance, if you are watching a recorded program you could still get weather alerts through the TIVO. It could have a pop-up stating what the alert is. That way I don't have to always switch to the weather channel to see my weather. And part of the problem with weather on the TV is that it is hard to find your local weather 24 hours a day. There always seen to be a commercial on or they are talking about something else. Of course this should all be realtime so the HMO would need to be purchased. TIVO could also have the weather channel sponser it. Just a cool idea. I doubt that it will go though.

The only problem with that is that the Tivo would have to be connected to a network of some sort all the time. It could work for DirecTivos since there could be a known datastream sent down (and used also by the sat boxes themselves for those without Tivo) for alerts and such.
Otherwise, those without a NIC in their Tivo would have to dial in every few minutes just to keep up.

It's a good idea in the abstract, but hard to implement. Maybe for Series 3's or 4's that may be more likely to be 'Net connected than phone line connected.

And then of course, a constant connection means you can start to implement a lot of other things like instant updates to account for overruns of sporting events and such.

There are parts of the constant connect that I like. With TiVo coming out with the HMO that could be possible sooner rather than later. But, we will see.
