Series 2 Home Media Option additional feature suggestions

The following are suggestions I made to DirecTV. The first four were parts of the Home Media Option that I am hoping Hughes will choose to support (DirecTV doesn't have the same features as standalone units).

However, the last 2 would apply to all Series 2 systems and hey, if I can't get the features from DirecTV, at least the standalone users can get 'em:

5) Ogg Vorbis player support. If you are not familiar with Ogg Vorbis, it is a music encoding format like MP3, but with better quality and no licensing costs. I currently am awaiting delivery of an Ogg Vorbis handheld (actually, a firmware update for my Neuros player to enable Ogg Vorbis, technicality) and use Oggs on my PC. Ogg support would be trivial since Linux is the platform that Ogg started on and the menus and such for the MP3 player probably would not need any adjustments. Very easy for TiVo to do.

6) Playing of PC-based MPEG files ... not the extraction of TiVo video to a PC, but the importing of PC videos to the TiVo. I have a fair collection of files I encoded with a Radeon All-in-Wonder card before I had a TiVo and would like to be able to play these on the TiVo. No content issues, especially if it worked like the MP3 (Ogg!) player and used a remote file system for a data store.

And of course we have #7 even though it's not related to the HMO and I doubt it'll ever happen:

7) Bring back the hacks! If you absolutely have to lock us out of parts of the system, then devise a method for us to safely add hacks like the caller-ID hack, AIM, etc without allowing us to replace the kernel and boot scripts. Perhaps by allowing user-level access to an rc.local style file and a small (500MB?) /opt partition that won't be wiped. I don't -want- to change kernel or system-level items, but really would like to have some ability to customize the system. Starting with an SSH install would help. I'm not asking you to -support- this in anyway, just to not make it so impossible.

Thanks,
/Geoff
