Swap file confusion

I'm a newbie so please bear with me. I plan on upgrading my single drive DSR6000 this weekend. I would like to add a 120 GB drive to my 40 GB drive while preserving my existing recordings. I've read and re-read Hinsdale's instructions as well as scoured this board for info but the swap file still has me stumped. Specifically, I don't know which configuration to use in step 10 to achieve my goal. Configuration #1 seems like the logical choice if not for the Swap File warning about recording capacities over 140 GB. The warning directs me to Configuration #2 (which won't work because it won't preserve my recordings) or Configuration #3 (which I don't understand how to apply to my situation). Could someone please explain to me how to add the 120 GB drive, preserve my recordings, and avoid a swap file issue?
Thanks!

You can do #3 single 40G -> single 120G with -s 127 first, and then do #1 to add the origianl 40G as B.

That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks!

Thanks for asking the question, as I am in exactly the same situation (except SAT-T60) and plan to upgrade this weekend. I am adding a 120GB Samsung to the existing Maxtor 40GB, and want to preserve recordings, etc. However, as I read Hinsdale's instructions, it indicates the swap threshold for directivos is 180GB instead of 140GB. So I thought I was safe in proceeding with configuration 1 listed in step 10.
Is that not correct?

I'm not closely following the swap problem thread these days, but I believe you are right. I was going to mention it, but I think this is like a good insurance for small premium. You can feel safe now, and you'll continue to feel safe even when you decide to replace the 40G to a bigger one in the future.
If you *really* want to skip it, just go for it. The swap is necessary to recover from GSOD once you get >180G, and you *might* not see it in your TiVo's lifetime, or even if you see it, still you can recover from it with some work (well, certainly more work than taking slightly redundant upgrade process now.)

I just posed a similar question in the "mfs 2.0 upgrade revolution" thread at the top of this forum. You may look for responses to it today.
I'm doing a 120 Gb upgrade to an unmodified DirecTivo (40 GB). After reading alot of the swap discussion I think that the upgrade option #3 followed by an upgrade option #1 (Which is to just run the mfsadd command with correct options).
It appears to me that the alternate second command listed in the upgrade option #3 is only if you are adding two entirely new drives and not reusing the old tivo drive. Is that how you read it?
I am going go the route to enlarge the swap file for peace of mind.

It is silly NOT to expand your swap if you are replacing your A drive. Once you install that 120GB drive, the only way you'll ever be able to expand the swap and preserve your recordings is by upgrading to a 160GB drive (of which only 137GB will be usable) - and it will take about 6 to 8 hours to copy 120GB. You should expand the swap now, so that a later drive B upgrade can be done with safety.
