Survivor 3/13(spoiler)

That has got to be hands down the most idiotic thing I have seen yet on survivor. Heidi is a moron.
Let's see. If she votes with the guys they will keep her till the merge. If she doesn't vote with the guys and they lose the tiebreaker she would likely be kept till the merge anyways. Christy would likely be kept as well since there is one more challenge till the merge and these games have a miraculous equalizing ability. Chances are they would have kept Heidi anyways.
So on the other hand she votes against the guys and they win the tiebreaker. She goes to the merge in a power position to hopefully meet up with her former alliance members.
The way I figure it is she would end up in the saame situation if she voted with or against the guys but she would have had a 50/50 chance at being in a much better position.
Unreal.
Posted by: Skittles
Heidi was probably smart to have sided with the guys at that point. It buys her time to get further in the game, and hopefully find some salvation in an eventual merger.
Consider: If Heidi had sided with the girls, then the first time they voted, the results would have been 3 for Butch and 3 for Jeanne. The tiebreaker would probably have produced a deadlock. At that point, they go to votes from previous Tribal Council. Jeanne had one (from the second episode) whereas Butch had none.
At that point, Jeanne would be gone. Dave (the obvious ringleader) would have known Heidi couldn't be trusted, and would probably have done what was necessary to get her out of Tambaqui next. I suspect he might even go as far as to throw the next immunity challenge to get rid of her, thereby sparing any of the male tribemembers from Jaburu.
What's interesting about that whole situation, though, is that had the women chosen to vote off Roger instead of Butch, the women would have won. Roger has 4 votes cast against him at Tribal Council.

No, I'm not. That's just the way it's been done in the past 5 Survivors.

Interesting that all the men came closer than Heidi to spelling Jeanne's name correctly. :p
At least things will get a little more 'interesting' now that there's some male/female interaction in the tribes. A sobbing/whiny Shawna was wearing really thin! But a flirtatious Shawna is an entirely different story! :D

Last night I thought Heidi was looking particularly nappy... She can make some really ugly looking faces - one shot last night with her tongue out was really bad...
I think Jeanne and Christy have more natural beauty without makeup than either Heidi or Jenna...

Actually, I think, and I may be mistaken, last season or they season before they announced that past votes wouldn't count against you, but there was never a tie to see what the new system was.
Posted by: BeanMeScot
There was a tie and they wound up picking colored rocks out of bag to decide who left. A really lame way to do it.
Posted by: KLB
How obvious was Heidi in the tribal counsel that she was the one selling the women out???
If I were the other women I would find one of the guys to team up with and get rid of the others...
Posted by: TheDewAddict
I think the guys (all of them) should have formed a pact before splitting up saying that it will still be men vs women. Then, once tambaqui lost and they got rid of Jeane, they could throw the next challenge, and easilly get rid of Heidi (you know she'll go back to her alliance with Jenna as soon as the merge hits), therefore it will be 6 guys and 4 girls into the merge. They can then pick of Deanna, Christy, Jenna, and Shawna.

That cracked me up... How many women spell the name Jean like Gene? And yet Heidi spells it like a man's name... too funny
Obviously Jenna was a total idiot, giving Dave all that information... Even if she dind't expect what happened to happen, she still should expected a merge or something similar and all that info could come back to haunt them. If anything, it would have been funny of her to make stuff up. Say that Heidi is a liability, and Shauna is really running the show over there.. That would have been great!
Posted by: Chris Roberts
I think Heidi did a smart thing to stay in the game longer. However, I think the guys will end up keeping Christy around. They seem to like her better and she has the whole "damsel in distress" thing going for her. Whereas Heidi has now proven herself to be an untrustworthy backstabber who will switch sides as soon as someone gives her a half-good reason to do so. Also, she will no doubt go back to her old alliance if she's still around for the merge. Whereas the guys could learn that Christy has no alliance over there and may stick with them at the merge.
Posted by: pmyers
As soon as Jenna started spilling her guys my wife said "has this dumb girl every watched this show before?". I had to laugh becuase she was right. Why would you tell your "opponent" all your team's strength and weaknesses? The only thing Dave could have done better was to give her misinformation....other than that it sounded like he was just reading their dossiers off the website. Good move.
I knew that Heide was going to turn on the girls and screw her entire (original) tribe....women just don't trust/get along with other women. It always happens.

I think Heidi is even more overrated in the looks department than Jerri from Survivor:Australian Outback was. Maybe it's just having been living in those conditions for two weeks, who knows. I definitely agree about Christy. More of a girl-next-door look, but WAY underrated. But not about Jenna, she's still looking hot, especially after (and especially DURING) that shower last night. Shauna looks different every time they show her. She's like that chick on that one Seinfeld episode who kept switching from hot to ugly every time Jerry looked at her.
Posted by: Philosofy
What really cracked me up was Shawna's recovery. From "Oh, I'm so low! I can't even move!" to "Look, a cute guy! Hi! I'm available!!!"
I think the guys that are left are a pretty tight knit group. I'll bet Dave based his choices for guys on who Jenna picked first. If Jabaru loses an immunity, how much do you want to bet that Deena (sp?) is the next to go? I'd wager we won't see another guy voted off before the merge.

I am ashamed to admit I've even peripherally following this silly show, but with that out of the way, I'm miffed at NBCs tricks with the times on their shows that caused both of the tuners in my DirecTiVo to be occupied, which caused a conflict with the season pass with Survivor, and left me unable to sit in my play room watching on my TV.
My son is hooked on the show, and he'll have a copy around for a good while that I can watch in the living room, but I'm still not happy.
It's yet another reason why I should be doing something that I feel like I shouldn't have to do: double check the To Do list on the TiVo.
Almost as irritating as that was that when "er" started last nite, I saw the first 3 minutes or so of it go by (was finally home from a long day at work by then) without it being recorded. Again, because NBC is playing games with start times of their shows.
I wish these networks would play nicer with the start / stop times and not require me to pad shows like Friends (which still didn't have the ending joke in it's recording, it was caught in the Scrubs recording instead).

I agree that Jenna is the hot one, she is still looking good.
You're cracking me up about shauna - she does look different each time you see her, but now that there are guys in the tribe she seems to be looking much happier :p Heidi is looking pretty Hideous lately also. I don't remember what Jerri looks like.
I'm not sure how I feel about these new tribes. I was watching mostly for the battle of the sexes aspect of it. But we'll see how things go. Will the guys try and vote off all the girls first? Who is the strongest tribe now taht they have changed?
Posted by: KRS
I think Dave miscalculated a bit by not keeping a little more brawn on his team. That might have helped with the canoe paddling (although that would not have stopped Cristy from spotting a misspelled mosquito).
I have to side with Deena on this one: Shauna goes from death's door to being perky and flirty? WTF. She may be nice looking, but come on - talk about self centered drama queen. She should be on the Real World with that attitude.
bdowell - huh? Did you watch Survivor or Scrubs? And who did what now in the playroom?

No I conveniently missed that spectacle - I'm sure I didn't miss much

We were all laughing out loud at the extremely unflattering shots of Heidi early in the episode (sitting around with the girls, wearing glasses) -- "the cute ones" indeed!
I didn't think Heidi played it well, either, except for guaranteeing her survival that night. If I were Dave & Co. I would vote her out next and keep Christy around longer... Heidi has proven she can't be trusted, and Christy seems to really "get" their game. Jeanne struck me as a good player who just ended up behind the eight-ball every time she turned around.
In general Dave has stuck me as a very good player, the closest thing to a Colby we've seen since, well, Colby. Has a gameplan, likeable enough to keep around, low-key enough not to be a threat -- yet.
Posted by: cello
Do we know for sure when there will be a merge? Just because it's been done a certain way before, doesn't mean that it won't change.
Though I do hope there is a merge. I want it to be Christy and Dave in the final 2 - and I think that unless there is a merge when we think there will be one, Christy may end up going. Unless the men start to realize, as several of you have already mentioned, that they should want to keep Christy around and not Heidi.
*sigh* Why do I always have to like the people who I think are nice instead of the evil backstabbers who are, in fact, playing the game...

I was stuck at work until late, and didn't get home until near 10pm East coast time.
By the time I got home, I was able to catch the first few minutes (live) of "er" on NBC.
I assumed that Survivor was in the can, recorded on the second tuner in the DirecTiVo, but that was a false assumption...
My "playroom" (computer room area) DirecTiVo had recorded Friends, and padded it 2 extra minutes (as I had recently told it to do), and then recorded Scrubs on the second tuner, starting "on time", so it created a conflict that kept Survivor from being recorded on my playroom unit.
The playroom unit in my house is 'mine', while the living room unit is basically controlled by my son ('Lovetribe' is his handle here), and his younger sister. He'll have the copy of Survivor around for a couple of weeks, at least until he off loads it to *ugh!* video tape. I'll be able to watch the show on that unit over the weekend if I want, but I don't do much TV watching in our living room.
I had the wife give me a synopsis of what went on in the show last nite, but it sounded damn confusing at best, so I will probably have to watch most of the show to see what really gives.

I wouldn't necessarily say 'prettiest', but I would definately agree that Gina had the best overall package of any of them... especially in the attitude department. :)

Or maybe this one.

C'mon guys, are you purposely trying not to pick the obvious choice. She went farther in the game than the other women suggested but looked better and better every week, IMO.
As for the merge, I'm expecting another "fake" merge. I'm pretty sure this Survivor was underway before the previous one starting airing, so these guys don't know about the fake merge.

I don't know this one is kinda cute

Yeah, Elisabeth was 'cute', but Gina had the 'package' (ie. looks, brains, good attitude, depth of personality, etc.)

Yesterday's show really was pretty boring... why else are we sitting here spitting seeds at each other while we fight over past Survivor-girls ?
Philosophy... just name the time and place (and arrange it with Gina too), and I'll be there! ;)

Jeremy, I'm married, so how bout we do this: I'll hit on Gina and be incredibly obnoxious. Then you can step in, kick my butt, and win her heart. Hey, what are friends for?

shawna's looking pretty icky and so is heidi. jenna's staying hot pretty well but she already started off emaciated and if you can look hot while starving you'll be fine. i love how heidi was all about how cute they were and they showed some of the ugliest shots of her last night. lol. i hope they get rid of heidi and keep christy. it was really nice to see the guys go out of the way to adjust the light so she can see their mouths at night.

But that hasn't been the way. That method was used in Survivor 2. They haven't used that method again. They used the rocks and trivia before. We don't know what the tiebreaking procedure would have been this time around.

Shawna is the best looking girl of this group, and Elisabeth was the best ever, although Amber does run a close second.
I thought this was one of the best episodes in a long time, and totally unexpected...for myself anyways.
Lots of dynamics changed, Deena from top to bottom, Alex being with the guys, but suddenly Shawna is in the picture and his loyalties will change...and Dave looks to be in charge of the other tribe now.
I think this group is so much more likeable than last season's for sure, and maybe even since Africa.

Not true. It was also used in Survivor 3, when Lindsay was voted out in Episode 4. In fact, the only real variety in tiebreakers was in Survivor 4, and that was when they were in the Final Four. Truth be told, though, there have been only three tiebreakers occuring during Tribal Council voting.
So, really, Heidi has no reason not to think that ties in Tribal Council at this point won't be resolved by previous votes.

Are you serious? I thought Africa was the worst Survivor ever. Lots of unlikeable people there, for me: Brandon, Lex, Tom, Lindsey, Clarence, and Silas. When I consider someone like Frank a likeable character, something is definitely wrong. Although I do think Ethan was one of the most likeable contestants ever.

But not the most interesting. Richard Hatch in my opinion, was the most interesting and probably most reviled contestant on Survivor. He is one of the rate ones whose first name I remember, and the only one whose last name I remember.

Ironically the person who competes with him for "most reviled" prize was on that same show...Susan Hawk.

JMO once again, but I think the thing is bagged... not neccessarily for who ultimately wins, but who surivives to the final four which is all CBS needs for viewing. As a fan favorite and underdog... I think Christy makes the final four or better. They now have her paired with two older men... one a teacher who will recognize her strength and character in overcoming long odds. No way I see Butch or Roger voting her out before Heidi.
And in the final analysis of the competition guys VS the gals... the guys win hands down based on consideration and acceptance of Christy. The girls ought to be embarrassed for how the handled themselves.
Posted by: DreadPirateRob
Elizabeth will always be my favorite.... (flashback).... mmmmm.....Elizabeth....
I agree with whoever above said that this edition's cast is pretty likable, maybe more likable than any since Australia, which had Elizabeth (mmmmm), Colby, Kentucky Joe, Tina, etc.
As for Heidi, I think she did the right thing, for her at least. I think she is going to rely on her looks for the guys to keep her around, especially if they get to a merge and the younger guys like Rob are still around. Guy are notoriously stupid about stuff like that, a reputation I will gladly uphold! And how funny was it how Shawna just perked up when the guys showed up. I couldn't stop laughing.
As for the tiebreaker - hasn't been established yet. They definitely announced last season that prior votes was not a consideration, and there'
s no way of knowing what is the procedure this time until it actually happens.
Posted by: vman
This cast is likeable? I can hardly find anyone in there I'm rooting for. Most of the guys are acting like idiots in their obsession over the women, while most of the women have few redeeming qualities. Butch seems like a good guy, but other than that, I'm not sure who is so likeable. The younger women are among the dumbest and shallowest contestants ever. Deena is a little full of herself, and pretty critical of everyone else. Even Christy, who clearly faces a lot of disadvantages, doesn't seem to be doing herself a lot of favors with her attitude around all the women. They may have been pretty rude to her, but she also has had some of her own little tantrums. She also seemed a little too eager to say how great the guys were once she moved in with them, and to trash the entire women's tribe for their treatment of her (much of it may have been deserved, but her repeated discussion of it still grated on me)
Who exactly do you all find likeable?
Posted by: DLiquid
I don't really think this bunch is any more/less likeable than the recent casts.
I don't really like:
Roger - Bossy, and Daniel said he smelled bad. :)
Dave - "You don't screw the cheerleaders at halftime." Overconfident.
Rob - Goofy, but mildly amusing.
Heidi - Self-proclaimed hot chick. Dumb. Scary looking sometimes.
Jenna - Self-proclaimed hot chick. Wouldn't give Christy the time of day.
I do like:
Butch - What's not to like?
Alex - Seems like a nice guy.
Matthew - Christopher Walken meets Christopher Reeve.
Shawna - Actual hot chick. If she can put the whining behind her, so can I. Plus, she's a local girl.
Deena - Female clone of Jeff Daniels. Reminds me of Kathy from a couple seasons back.
Christy - Gotta like the underdog, as long as she doesn't throw more tantrums.
Posted by: Chippy
I started really liking Dave in last night's episode. He's cute, played the date just right by not divulging all of his tribe's secrets (and used Jenna's big mouth against her to boot), plus I gotta like someone whose occupation is "rocket scientist." That was, until he pulled Heidi aside and told her he wanted to take her into the merge.
Yes, Christy had her tantrum moment, but I like her better than any of the other female contestants. She seems the most down-to-earth, and would most likely be someone I'd get along with in real life....unlike Heidi and Jenna.

Really? Why wouldn't the contestants be advised of how tie-breakers would be solved? If only to prevent lawsuits...
I don't believe Heidi is smart enough to think that far ahead. She's made a horrible mistake that will bite her in the butt, count on it. Wouldn't surprise me if Jenna doesn't end up being affected by it, as well...

You mean when he played her like a cheap violin. Of the 3, she was the most likely to believe she actually had a chance by siding with the men...

One thing I never could figure out, why in the hell didn't Frank and Brandon team up and make commercials. Talk about the odd couple, :D

I was hoping they'd throw one more twist into the tribal swap, though. It would have been great if, after picking their teams, Dave and Jenna were "allowed" to pick someone of the same sex to "reclaim" for their tribe. Then once they had done that, Dave and Jenna are forced to trade tribes. So they've effectively just picked each other's teams. :D (The reason for the earlier reclamation pick is so the teams would still be gender-balanced after Dave and Jenna traded places.)

If she goes with the guys she is guaranteeing herself a spot in the merged tribe. Since her true allies are in the other tribe, she has to hope they make it through to the merge and she can make her play.
I don't see how siding with the other two women (whom she was not close to at all and actually had an alliance against in the other tribe), was the smart play. If there is a tie and they lose, she is potentially going to be axed. If they win, she still can't trust the other two women. They were not friends before, and she was allied against them.
I think she took the lesser of two evils path here.

Here's another vote for Amber.
She looked great when she was on Howard Stern. Very pretty

Posted by: David Platt
I just came up with this way too complicated theory that could ensure that all the guys make it through to the merge:
After last week's mixup, the teams were evenly divided (3 men/3 women), right? Well, all the men had to do to ensure their success was make sure a woman got voted off last week. With Heidi being as stupid and succeptibe to manipulation as she is, Dave pretty much had that in the bag by picking her. Since a woman was voted off and Dave's tribe is now 3 men/ 2 women, all the men have to do is this: Dave's tribe has to throw the immunity challenge for the next two weeks. When they lose and go to tribal council, pick off the other women (Heidi and Christy). At that point there will be nine people total left; three women and six men. Considering they almost always do the merge when eight people are left, they're guaranteed a majority of men in the merged tribe, and they can then pick off the remaining women. Even if they wait a week or two later to do the merge, the men still have it made.
Posted by: pmyers
that would be possible, but you forget that once the tribes merge you basically have to play this game for yourself. Having women remain in the tribe could be considered good because that might make the physical challanges for immunity that much easier for a guy to win.
Posted by: brettatk
An besides, I would much rather keep Heidi, Shawna, or Jenna around for as long as possible. They are much easier to look at then any of the guys. :D
