I like Mr. Sterling now

I said I wasn't going to watch this show because it looked too hokey, but I'm glad I'm watching it.
I thought it was idealistic senator goes to DC and changes the world with his chutzpah.
But it's a show about an idealistic senator going to DC and realizing that idealism has its limits. And that no matter how clever or how convinced you are, there some obstacles you cannot overcome.
This week's episodes was really good. It seemed like it'd be one where his charm gets him through the day, but at the end you realize that he had to make a lot of sacrifices to get the one thing he wanted. The character has changed since the first episodes, where he was unwilling to compromise, follow rules or do what anyone else wanted. The writers did a good job of ending the show on a different note from the beginning.
So I like it. And I hope it comes back next season.

Great show... Very underappreciated. Too bad it's been canceled.

Where did you read this?

At Parsaz I believe.... Check the recent thread at season pass alerts on Mr Sterling and there is a link to the page.

I think you are wrong about this. Have checked all over and have found nothing stating that. Plus its ratings for a Friday show are actually pretty good.

I guess you are right. Doh! That is too bad. Goodbye season pass.

Well that would suck if it got canceled. It was just getting good.

That was a very good episode. I missed the premiere but was impressed with the rest of the season. I hope it gets picked up.

This is destined for failure. I never heard of this show before till I read this post. NBC has very weak shows. They need to either sign Friends for 10 more years or make Fraiser funny again cause their putting out BS shows like scrubs, american dreams, a.u.s.a, dog eat dog, i mean the list goes on. What is nbc going to do without friends, cause the only reason why shows like hidden hill, scrubs, and will grace get ratings is cause of friends.

This is one show that I'll e-mail to the networks should they truly cancel it...without Firefly on Friday nights, I've started to enjoy "Mister Sterling".. :( How accurate is this "Pazzaz" page really?

Wow -- I can't believe it's been canceled. I really like Mister Sterling. It should have picked up some of Providence's audience (same time slot as the former show, same audience type).

Initially the ratings were fair for a Friday nite show, but once February sweeps arrived they fell below Providence's. Sometimes you need to give a series a little run before it catches fire... especially on Friday nites in midseason. It was certainly fairly publicized before the initial episode though.
A bad sign (that Pazzaz is correct) is they put Mr Sterling on hiatus with only one episode left. Originally they were going to package the last two hour long shows into one two hour finale and then even junked that idea. If a network won't even complete a shows 10 episode run.... not good.

It doesn't even show up on jumpedtheshark.com -- guess it was too short lived. :)
But I will miss it... so many of my other favorites are aging, been a while since I enjoyed a new show this much........

I don't think the show was canceled...I believe it was a short season run and this past week was the season finale. However, after the 3/7 episode my To Do List had 2 episodes scheduled for 3/14, one at 8 and one at 9, but when 3/14 came, there was only 1 episode with the 9:00 hour filled with a Dateline show about the Smart girl, so there could be 1 episode left for the season.

I think there was some weird goof-up with the initial schedule listings, because the one "scheduled" for 8:00 appeared (from its description) to be the one that aired the previous week. The one originally "scheduled" for 9:00 was the one that actually aired at 8:00.

I really like this show too! I would hate to see it cancelled. The inside look at political negotiations, give and take, and the whole movie star addition was fun.

On TV Guide Online - Ask Matt, he seemed to indicate that the decision to renew this show is still up in the air.

Not on my (SA) TiVo! All the show descriptions seemed to be correct.
The last episode ("The Bunker"), the second of two shows on the same night, which was dropped at the last minute from the schedule, is due to be broadcast by the network in May -- according to my local station's programming department. They said it was postponed because of low ratings. Nothing about it being doomed.
I too think it has been getting better and better, and of course the visiting Portia de Rossi gave it a real shot in the arm! I'd love to see her patch things up with the senator and return to the scene.
BTW, I disliked Providence and avoided watching it. I think the two shows probably have very little of a common audience.

Hopefully Mr. Sterling can slip in the schedule next year, because maybe it skews a little younger than Providence....
Man that was some choice, education for some prison inmates or lots of snuggling with Portia.
He's a better man than I am!.
