Normal on HBO - Sex Change Done Well

I caught "Normal" on HBO last night with Jessica Lange and ?Tom Wilkerson?, the actor from "In the Bedroom." I thought it was very well done. The dichotomy of the church versus this family's tough decisions. The Wife's resolve. The pubescent daughter's attitude, just taking it in stride. This film really makes one think of the alternatives, kill oneself, death, live with it. . . Well done.

Did the couple stay together? I remember reading about a couple like this and they remained together.

I thought that it was an excellent movie and very enjoyable.

I thought I recognized "Roy"... He's one of the guys (the eldest of the bunch, IIRC) from The Full Monty.

Initially after the Husband disclosed, the Wife asked him to move out and they separated briefly. However, she resolved herself to the situation after she looked at the alternatives, i.e. him killing himself or running off somewhere. I think that was the real beauty of the film, that their love overcame even this difficult issue.

Like most made for HBO films it was a high quality production. I never found the husband believable as a man that wanted to become a woman however. He handled the emotional aspects well but didn't pull off the physical part very well. That would a difficult roll to play.

I think I agree with you. Emotionally, it was top notch. But now that you mention it, I agree that from a physical point of view he seemed to miss the mark. I also agree that it would take a very special person. How about the actor who plays Emmett on Queer as Folk? Or am I thinking about this wrong?
