Wow--so far, so many great performances, I almost don't know who to vote for.
Almost. :)

The return of Kristin Holt and she's going to be getting the dirt on the contestants! <giggle>

Real World: American Idol!
Posted by: Lori
OK, well, I was way off base last week, so obviously I don't have my finger on the pulse of the American people, but my bottom three would be Corey, Carmen and Julia. I think it's Julia's week to go, but really, I wouldn't be shocked if it's any of those three.
In other totally-made-up categories:
Folks that I think are a lock to come back:Clay, Ruben, Trenyce.
Folks that absolutely deserve another week based on tonight's performances: Kimberly L, Josh.
Folks that--for me--are on the bubble: Kimberly C., Charles, Rickey
Casting my vote for Clay.
Posted by: Demandred
My ranking:
1) Ruben
2) Clay
3) Trenyce
4) Kimberly Locke
5) Joshua
6) Carmen
7) Rickey
8) Kimberly Caldwell
9) Charles
10) Julia
11) Corey
Posted by: Skippy18
Clay, Ruben and Trenyce were awesome tonight.
For the bottom contestants, I will say its Carmen, Julia, Corey or Rickey.
Charles and both Kims are capable of much better.
Posted by: David Platt
Man, Ruben just hit it out of the park tonight. That was an absolutely flawless performance. My other favorites were Trenyce, Clay, and Kimberly.
I wouldn't be upset if any of the others got the boot.
Edited to add:
Ruben, for the love of God: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop wearing the stupid 205 shirts. We all get it. You're from Birmingham. You're proud you're from Birmingham. You loooooove Birmingham. You want everybody to know that you represent Birmingham. You want to bring the joy that is Birmingham to the world.
Now go out and buy a nice suit.
Posted by: WinBear
Ugh, can we get rid of Corey this week? I thought Julia started off good and went down hill quickly. And Charles? You need a new direction, dawg!
Posted by: jradosh
I'm scared. I was just thinking to myself "Kim's performance reminded me of the shows I once saw when I was working at Six Flags in NJ". Then Simon goes and says her performance was "just like you'd see in any amusement park".
(but he was right!)
J
PS. Kim C will be around a few more shows though... I think Julia is next to go.
Posted by: TomK
Mostly good performances tonight...better than last week in my opinion.
Posted by: bigcb37
Julia was terrible. It looked like she was in pain up there. I like Kim C. it looks like most of you dont. She needs to show off her voice more, if she can.
I hope America votes off Julia, Carmen, or Corey....then I will trust America's decision again...
Posted by: TomK
Corey has to go....I do not see what he has to offer.
Posted by: sallypnut
I'm only a few minutes in and I just have to say...
Corey. Must. Go.
That was scary.
I can't believe Vanessa's gone, and he's still there. :( :( :(

I don't think she can! That girl has absolutely NO range based on everything I've seen her sing. She has a good voice within her range, but when she tries to hit the upper register of it, it's like you can almost see this invisible barrier that she's not going past!
I voted for Clay, Ruben, and Rickey. Based on tonight, I think the bottom three will be Julia, Carmen, and Charles. But I thought Carmen and Charles would be in the bottom 3 last week, too. I really dislike Charles' voice. I don't think Carmen did that badly but everyone else was just a lot better. I really like Julia's voice but she looks like a deer caught in the headlights on stage.
I used to be a fan of Josh, but my head about exploded this week hearing Aerosmith done with that country twang. He's a good singer but if he's going to keep singing with that twang, he's gotta go.
Posted by: GoodN
Only 20 minutes into the show (West Coast) and I've picked my American Idol. Ruben is the best singer in the group. And when he finally puts on a suit, its over for the rest of them.
Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon...Clay was brilliant. I got chills. Can I change my vote?
Posted by: LoadStar
I don't know the names of many of the people - rarely watch the show since it's up against Buffy, and anything up against Buffy will lose... but yeah, Clay was awesome, I did catch him during a commercial break... I think he's going to win for sure. He's certainly the most talented singer up there.
Whichever the one was that sang Irene Cara's "What a Feeling" - they said she didn't look like she was having fun up there, and I'd agree 100%. Ryan then asked her after "Come on... you're having fun, right?" expecting a glib "Oh, sure, definitely" type answer, and instead getting a very shaky "Uhmm.. it's an experience" or something like that. She clearly is not having fun. I wonder if she just had a bad night, or if she's getting to the point that she doesn't want to be there anymore. If I could vote someone off, it would have been her, more as a compassion vote than anything else.
I didn't hear anyone else on tonights program that had as clear and professional a voice as Clay though... my vote is on him, definitely.

Obviously not a country fan, huh? A country artist by the name of Mark Chesnutt also released the song at roughly the same time as Aerosmith, and his version didn't sound too much different than Josh sang it.

Anyone else think Trenyce blew Kelly Clarkson away? I wanted to hear Trenyce keep going, and got some tingles from her song.
Man, after hearing Kelly sing again, I thought "man, last year SUCKED compared to this year, if she was the best".
Kelly also looked very ill, like she was on some sort of diet drug.
Posted by: tonyoci
I thought that Kelly was pretty bad, the song was awful and her high pitch "shouting" looked really bad compared to some of the contestants
Corey - he was pretty bad. I cannot see what the judges like about him
Ruben - he was amazing, the first time I actually rewound at the end to watch someone again. However I just cannot see him winning the contest due to it being based on public vote
Trenyce - She was really good, but lacks the personality of some others
Clay - he was outstanding again but I still think he sounds a little "broadway show" - that's fine but perhaps not what will win this contest.
Carmen - Not the worst but down there somewhere
Kimberly Locke - She was better tonight but the song was not that exciting, I think she has the ability to improve a lot and may stick around
Joshua - he was great, with your eyes closed it sounded like CMT. I still do not like watching him perform however.
Rickey - Good singing but the song was boring. I think his voice may be limited. Why didn't he sing the theme from Hercules.
Kimberly Caldwell - I just hate this girl, her singing was not terrible but not up to the standards of the others
Charles - Basically he had to try something and it did not work but it was better than just singing a ballad.
Julia - Just awful. She tried as hard as she could but she just does not have the talent of the others.
My bottom three Julia, Kim C, Corey
America's Bottom three prediction: Julia, Charles, Carmen
Prediction is that Julia gets voted out.
Tony

I thought the best this week were Trenyce, Ruben, Rickey, and Clay. Big Kimberly surprised me at the end with a good performance. Kim C is so theme park, that was classic. Julia was bad. Carmen was pretty bad, but I'm a sucker for Olivia Newton John songs what can I say? Corey was pretty much horrible, I think he's paying off the judges or something, because they always praise his bad performances. Josh was even more annoying with his country twang, but at least he didn't do jumping jacks or anything this week. Charles continues to struggle.
I think it's getting pretty obvious the top three will be Clay, Ruben, and Trenyce. I'm still picking Clay to win, but all of those three are very talented so it will be tough.

Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuben.
My wife and I hooked on to this show the episode that got it to 12. We are liking this a lot. And I agree with what Randy said about Ruben, as soon as he hit those first three notes that he was gold last night. Amazing.
And I knew Randy looked somewhat familiar. Thank god they showed those Journey pics. I like Randy, but he is no match for Journey's original bass player. It was Ross Vallory, right?
Posted by: BLeonard
I wonder who the future celebrity judges will be. Gladys Knight was too nice. She had only positive things to say about everyone. I felt sorry for Simon who always had to go last after everyone gushed over almost every contestant's performances and he had to give an honest appraisal.
All in all the contestants are very good but far from equal.

I think Kelly Clarkson won last night.
Posted by: TomK
I think that we've already seen the best of Julia, Corey, Charles, Josh, and Kimberly C. and it's not good enough for me. Carmen has a strong voice but she hasn't found the right way/song to show it off to her benefit. I keep hoping she can get it all together before she gets voted off the show. Ruben, Clay, Trenyce, and Kimberly L. are the best of the lot in my opinion.

Yes.

Corey - Not the worst, but won't last long. Weak voice.
Ruben - I got chills. The best performance last night. I'd like to see him dressed up a bit.
Trenyce - Second best last night.
Clay - Good perfomance..a little shaky on that last high note..
Carmen - Was surprisingly good last week, but back to her usual poor performance this week. Could get voted out.
Joshua - Sings well but that heavy country accent surprised me. And stop slurring your words when you sing...AnIDonwanmisathin..very annoying.
Rickey - Why do the judges love this guy? Wasn't he singing falsetto most of the song? I don't get it.
Kimberly Caldwell - This girl has been performing since the age of 5 and can't seem to break out of the phony Disney mouseketeer type of performances. Too bad.
Charles - I enjoyed his performance. The song wasn't very demanding but he did well.
Julia - Goodbye girlfriend. You ain't got it.
Kimberly Locke - I thought she was great last night. She should make the top 6.
Julia or Carmen will go.

I think this is his real voice. His speaking voice is pretty high.

Wow. Another Buffy person who tuned into AI for the first time since the initial rounds of auditions. I only watched the first hour, but it sounds like I caught the best of them. I was blown away by Reuben and Clay. I agree that Clay has a very Broadway voice. I'd love to hear him on the radio any day. Then again, I'm so not the target audience for AI or for a lot of radio.
I also agree that Corey sucked big time. I was actually very surprised when I heard the positive things that the judges had to say to him. He had trouble keeping in tune - especially in that painful upper register. I have a pretty good ear for that sort of stuff as a musician myself, although I often have more trouble telling when vocalists are off key than when instrumentalists are. But he was just way off more than once. I sure hope he's going.
ETA: I was not looking forward to Clay's performance after I heard what he would be singing. All I could think of was the movie version of Somewhere Out There, with the high pitched little mouse voice singing it. That made me all the more impresse when Clay did such a fabulous performance of it. I wonder if perhaps his song choice contribued to him sounding so "broadway". I agree with an earlier poster that the only sore spot was his high note at the end - a bit shaky, and he shouldn't have tried to do vibrato on it to the extent that he did. Think it would have been better if he had taken the safe route and stayed down an octave.

While the celebrity judges are all nicey nicey I think that you can tell their real opinion by the relativeness of their niceness. To Gladys some people were ,great, outstanding etc. Others gave her chills, while some were good and one would be "good in a movie"
Last year showed that the winner will come from the one who shows the most improvement over the final 10 weeks. Julia and the Kim's both seemed good earlier on but have really not improved since. Clay and Reuben and especially Trenyce have improved dramatically.
When prediciting winners we have to keep in mind
a) the goal of the show - to create a pop star / recording artist. It's possible Clay and Reuben might struggle to fill this role even though they might have good careers
b) The make up of the voters, I have always assumed (with no proof) that more young girls vote than anyone else. I cannot see Reuben or maybe Clay getting their votes. There is no way that Justin (who I think has improved incredibly now) or the stripper were #2 & #3 last year but better singers got voted our earlier. There was even suggestions (no proof just repeating what I heard here and on the news) of color bias (not blatent just white kids voting for white kids) making it tougher for the black singers.
All of this I think makes it impossible for us to predict who will win but we can all do a good job of predicting who should win.
All IMHO

Saw that.. Nice.

My favorites were Joshua, Clay, Ruben, and Trenyce, probably in that order.
I loved Joshua's country version of 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing.' Of course, I also like country music. Mark Chesnutt was great!
There were moments during Clay's perfomance where he reminded me of Josh Groban. :)
Kimberly C. does way too much pointing while she's singing.
Kelly is a great singer, but I didn't like the song from the movie that she sang.
It's strange that they've decided to bring in these celebrity judges. They don't add anything to the show; they can't say what they really feel, so they're like another Paula.
Posted by: jsmeeker
Corey need to go. I really don't like his voice at all. After that, it's probably Charles.
For the girls, Trenyece is a clear cut above all others. None of the otlers come close. For the guys, its Clay and Ruben. IMHO, these are the three that have the best talent to make the final three.
Kimberly Locke did better, but I still don't like her. I was really wanting to get rid of her. They are right about the hair. *Much* better. Kimberly Caldwell is still pretty hot, and she's very comfortable on the stage. Carmen is cute. I'm a sucker for cute.

I think they add some credibility to the show. Gladys Knight is a legend, and she looked great, BTW. Also, I could totally tell who she liked and who she didn't. When Paula doesn't like someone, she is sometimes hard to read (e.g., "Good for you"), but Gladys would give them a "compliment" that clearly indicated how she felt about their performance. For ones she didn't particularly like, paraphrasing: "I love country music, and you... are... country...."; "I see you in the movies"; "You're on the brink". On the other hand, it was very clear that she was impressed by Ruben, Trenyce, and Clay, although she put in the disclaimer that Clay's voice might not sell in the contemporary environment.

You read Julia *exactly* the same way I do. Her brief interview with Ryan was very, very telling, IMHO. Seems like she doesn't want to be there. I think she may have realized she doesn't have a chance, so she just gave up.

Corey -- Wow that was awful. The middle part didn't suck, but that's hardly enough to warrant the praise he got from the judges. Going first may have helped him, because by the time they got through Ruben, Clay, and Trenyce, I fogot how much he sucked.
Ruben -- Very nice, but for the love of God, call up Luther Vandross and ask him if you can borrow some of his fat clothes.
Trenyce -- Pretty good. The thing that gets me with her is that the quality/characteristic of her voice changed (unwarranted) throughout the song.
Clay -- Really nice (except for the end). The Movie Theme fits nicely with his broadway voice.
Carmen -- Please stop yodeling. She's 17 and it shows. And she should be thanking someone everyday that she didn't end up with her mama's chin.
Kim L -- The American Idol one-hit wonder. I'll give her one more chance.
Josh -- Should've just tried out for Nashville Star (or whatever it is). While I don't care for that type of singing...at least it doesn't make my ears bleed, Corey.
Rickey -- Seriously, why do people like this guy?
Kim C -- I was thinking the exact thing as Simon during her performance.
Charles -- Not bad, but not good either. He's just in over his head. No way he could have pulled off a song like that.
Julia -- She's like a deer caught in headlights. I hope we don't have a Patriotic theme. No way could I listen to her butcher the entire SSB.
Bottom three... Julia, Kim L, and Charles. Hope to see Julia go.

Agreed. I thought Gladys did a great job handling her comments.

My comments:
Julia is likely to be gone. She was close last week, and actually probably did better last week then this week.
Josh - definitely screwed over the judges with his abrubt change to country singer. If had done the country singer routine from the start, he probably wouldn't have made it through this far. Ditto that he should just have waited for American Country Star or whatever a country music version of A.I. would be called.
Carmen - ditto everyone else's comments - plus I would add that the girl needs to stop sticking out the knees in the effort to accentuate the gluttious maximus. She looks like a wounded chicken trying to stand on one leg. Coupled with just an 'ok voice' that is definitely more ready for country music, she should be gone.
Rickey is just ok. He'll likely stick around another week.
Charles wasn't that bad this week, and will likely stick around, but he's not impressive enough to be an idol.
Kimberly Locke was about the same as Charles. Ok, not great, and definitely not going to make it to end, but probably will get another week by watching Julia be sent packing.
Corey should have been booted before it got narrowed to 12. I don't remember exactly who made it through with him, and who got passed over, but it was a mistake to put him through. (Then again, I'm not sure who I would have kept in place of him if it was really going to be 12).
Kim C - yup. Simon was dead on. She has a career working at Six Flags or Disney, but she's not going to be the winner.
That leaves:
Clay and Ruben - continuing to shine. Though Clay needs to show more emotion up on the stage, but the same can be said for Ruben. They both just sort of stand there and sing. I'll give a little credit to Charles for trying to energize the crowd, and the same to Kim C. Both tried to get the crowd into it, and they play well to the audience.
Clay and Ruben sing well, and put on a powerful vocal performance, but they aren't very energetic on the stage.
I know Ruben is a big guy, and it's not like we could expect him to break dance on the stage while singing, but I'd like to see him do more than stand there. Same for Clay.

I agree that you can tell what Paula and the guest judges really think by interpreting their comments. I guess I'd just rather hear blatant opinions rather than sugercoated ones that need to be interpreted.
I'm not sure if the celebrity judges add credibility to the show. I already have respect for the 3 regular judges, so adding the celebrity judges doesn't make the show more credible for me. I think having them on might have something to do with drawing viewers in who want to see the celebrity judges themselves.

What about that movie clip. Dear God. I would rather have bamboo slipped under my fingernails than have to sit thru two hours of that. And that preview was the best they could show?. Blech..
I slept thru the last hour and am currently Tivoless. Carmen is horrible. Charles is horrible. Corey is just plain nasty and can't sing. I think Kim C is more than a theme park singer but last's night was a dead ringer for it.

Kim Caldwell sang in 4 shows a day at the "Country Tonite" Theatre in Branson, MO for 3 years. That could explain Simon's "theme park" comments.
Just take a look at the website... TOTAL theme-park kind of show =)

My thoughts re last night's show:
Corey - terrible. I cringed throughout, and was actually covering my ears at the end. Could not believe the praise he got - were the judges slow starters too? Not long for the show.
Ruuuuuuuuuubbbeeeeeeen - Incredible. He has such a powerful baritone, almost reminiscent of Barry White (but higher). Even my wife, who is tone deaf, said the first three or four notes made the hair on her neck stand up he was so good. Will go far in the competition - top 3 at least.
Trenyce - As Gladys said (and what I had just said to my wife, b/c the judges always say this), anyone who can sing a Whitney song and not embarass herself has real talent. And she did way better than merely not embarassing herself. Wasn't a big fun of her dress - made her chest look weird (and my wife said it first, so I'm ok, right?). Also top 3 material.
Clay - wasn't thrilled when I heard the song choice, but he lit it up. He also looks better and better every week as he gets styling and clothes help - in fact his new spiky 'do hides his ears very well. His performance was flawless - if not Broadway-esque - until that last high note. Last of the top 3 material.
Rickey - I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like the sound of his voice. It's very pure, just high. I thought he did fine, and is certainly deserving of advancing. He is also dressing better, and as you will note, was (along with Ruben, Trenyce, and Clay) one of the few that Gladys Knight gave unabashed praise to.
Kim C - Simon was so right on with the theme show comment. It hurts, but the truth usually does. She has an appealing voice, but her range is very limited. She's this year's rocker girl with no range, a la Nikki from last year. Her performance was annoying, and what was the early 80's Madonna look?
Charles - I agree with the judges that his song selection was terrible - Simon's remark was classic (something about 5,000 movies to choose from, and he chose The Wiz). I think he is better than he showed last night, but not talented enough to go far.
Josh - I think most of you need to open your eyes about country music - jeesh. When I heard his song choice, I was imagining a weak Aerosmith knockoff, but I perked up considerably when I realized he was doing the country arrangement (which is immeasurably better). He's got a pretty nice voice, especially with the twang, but I agree he's probably better suited for Nashville Star (or whatever it's called).
Carmen - she's pretty hot (and needs to turn 18 fast so I don't feel so bad) and has a decent voice, but suffers from woeful song selection along with incredibly bad posture for a dancer. She looks like Matthew McConaughey doing his chicken dance. Can you imagine having to do homework during all this?
Kim L - She clearly has talent, but that dress was awfully unflattering, and she needs better song selection as well.
Julia - whoever said "deer in the headlights" was dead on. She has regressed a lot since this competition started (and I didn't see all the early ones due to Buffy conflicts). Not long for the show.
Kelly (bonus breakdown) - she can obviously sing, but what was with the song, the hair, the makeup, the dress, and the shoes? They were all terrible. She looked sick or something. And that movie looks dreadful. NO way is the wife dragging me to that - Crossroads was bad enough, but this time I am putting my foot down!
Over all, this group is much more talented than last year's - at least everyone here can carry a tune. I think Ruben, Clay, Trenyce, Kim L, and Rickey are better than everyone last year but Kelly and Tamyra.
Posted by: dbuchthal
I think it's pretty clear that Clay and Ruben are the class of this group. Clay's little warble on that final note kinda freaked me until I remembered that he was doing a Fieval imitation, trying to sound like a mouse. I think it was done entirely on purpose, but it missed with a lot of the audience because they don't watch kiddie movies. Ruben is just liquid gold. I'd be happy with either one of those two winning it all, but I'm rooting for the funny-looking skinny guy since this is the only way someone like him could ever get a recording contract in an image-conscious America.
One thing that surprised me is how far down many people are rating Ricky. His song was fairly boring and I was bummed when I heard what he was going to sing. Then when he went through it, I was blown away. I think he did a better job than anybody but Clay or Ruben. I also think Kimberly Locke outperformed Trenyce last night, and those two round out my top 5. The gap between Trenyce and the rest is just enormous, similar to the gap between the top two (Kelly and Tamyra) and everyone else last year.
I think the general assessment with Julia is spot on. Voting her off right now would be an act of mercy, both for her and the audience. She was a lot better last week -- I think she was positively shattered by nearly getting voted off. Corey hasn't sung well yet even once; Josh is halfway decent; Charles is boring as hell; Kimberly Caldwell is going for the Nikki "I've got no range but lots of energy" award; and Carmen has been out of her league the whole way along. Dumping anyone from this crowd would be no great loss, but Julia is going to have a nervous breakdown if she's forced to go one more week.

The Best:
- Ruben (Please change your shirt!)
- Trenyce (I thought she was the best of the night)
- Clay (Good job)
The Worst:
- Corey (what gang is he in anyway??)
- Julia (Her hair was awful. She used to be cute...)
- Charles (I really don't think he's that talented...)
Also, what's the deal with this movie that Kelly Clarkson is in?? It looks like some kind of beach musical. I guess this thing is aimed at pre-teens, but I can't imagine it making very much money....but then it probably didn't cost much to make either.
Posted by: TonyD79
My top three were Trenyce (how did she not make the first round?), Clay and Rueben.
Funny how some of you think Clay is too broadway for America. Didn't he have the top number of votes last week?

Did I nail it or what?? :D

The thing I don't get....Carmen not in the bottom three?
Got to be the country contingent voting for her just cause she is "country."
She stinks.
Although America got it pretty right this week.
I wish we voted performers off, though. By voiting FOR folks, decent performances can go by the wayside too early.

Yup! He did it on purpose. With his voice and hitting all the notes.. there would be no way he would miss that one. His singing is awesome. He is able to pull the emotion into his song and make you feel it. I don't get these "broadway" voice comments. Don't a lot of the pop stars do broadway? I think that one guy from backstreet boys (how sad is it that I know this) is doing something, and a few others (that I can't think of.. !)
Ruben.. good voice, but he's just missing something fo rme. He doesn't seem like he can give the energy.. he sorta just stands there.
I like Julia. She did horrible last night, but all the other times I liked her voice.
Trenyce is great too. I think she has a GREAT personality. I think it SHOULD come down to her or Clay.

In the result's show last night, I found it interesting how quickly they sent Julia off the center stage and back to the safe seats. Also, Ryan never mentioned who was the top vote-getter of the three. I wonder if the producers are trying to prevent another Christina Christian collapse with this...

America got the bottom three right this time. Either Corey or Charles had to go. I think Julia is next. She got almost zero screen time duringthe group numbers. Also, is it me, or were those group numbers form last night just awful? Ughhh... Talk about amusment park.

With the inclusion of not one but two songs from The Wiz, I'm wondering whether the contestants chose them directly or if the show's musical staff suggested them and the contestants then went along with their suggestions. ("Don't know what to sing? There's this obscure song from The Wiz that would be perfect for you!")

Man, is it just me? Corey is AWFUL, has been AWFUL since show 1. I started to think I was nuts, the judges would go on about how great he was, and I could not understand it. Shook my faith in the the all-knowing judges.
FINALLY, Simon told the emperor he had no clothes last night, why did it take so long?
This kid is going to go away from this actually thinking he can sing, he's terrible, should not have even gotten to Hollywood.

No, it's not just you at all. If you check out the recaps and the forums at television without pity, there is nothing but corey hate going on.

So we've seen Kim L sing a song from the Wizard of Oz, a Burger King commercial, and The Wiz. She really needs to pick a better song next week. Those jeans last night made her look HUGE.
Carmen is hanging in there, how strange.
Kim C with the bandana, oh I thought there was gonna be a Fashion Police raid right there on live TV.
Randy should say: "Yo Corey, you're wack, dawg." At least America knows what's up with Corey.
Did you guys notice how last night Josh started talking with that country twang, too? He never did that in previous shows. What a poser.
Julia must have gotten some sympathy votes for her crying, cause I thought she was gone last night. I'm glad she stayed in it, because it's amusing to watch her struggle with the show now. It's obvious she can never win, so it has to be very hard for her. She should just give up and get buckwild next week, maybe come out in rollerskates for the disco song to mock Simon, what has she got to lose.

Yup. He is the one I want gone ASAP. I just don't like his voice. Charles is only marginally better.

I was a little suprised. I was convinced Julie would be out, and even when we got to the bottom two I thought that it would be Cory. I was under the incorrect assumption that Charles had a fan club that would let him hang on.
I am not sure we really know that Clay got the most votes ? Was that confirmed. Remember that right now people spread their votes amongst a lot more contestants than when we get to the final 3 or 4. I would be happy with Clay, Trenyce or Reuben though I agree his lack of stage presence may work against him. Just as long as we can get rid of Kimberly C. soon.

I felt sorry for Kelly Clarkson, I didn't watch her show last year, so I don't have any history on her. I just felt that she was in a no-win situation last night, she had to do REALLY well or all those watching would look at her and think the new contestants were better and then what? I thought she pulled it off amazingly well, although the outfit (especially the shoe type things) was not good.
The movie will be lame, those 2 just don't go together.
And then at the end, Simon pumps up the the pressure on the poor girl by saying that in a few weeks she's going to change the world with her singing voice. Man, I think she had the most to lose last night and she came out OK.

Basically she got really dehydrated and had to be taken to the hospital for exhaustion...This on the day she gets the boot no less, too.
...And how rude were Corey's family/friends with their "Corey" chant after Charles was eliminated. Very disrespectful. I give Corey a little credit for starting the "Charlie" chant, but he's still gotta go next week.

Why are so many people down on Kimberly Caldwell?? Out of all the girls that remain, she is number two, behind Trenyce. She is much more of a pop star type than Julia, Carmen, and Kimberly Locke.

I agree she's #2 among the females. I can only speak for myself, but I don't like Kim C because she seems extremely fake. Take the most fake person you know and multiply 10 times, add lots of makeup and a scary looking mom, and you get Kim C. She seems like the kind of girl who was put in pageants by her psycho mom when she was 4, and the fake is such a part of her act that she just can't shake it. I tend to hate on some of these people to make the show more entertaining, and for me Kim C is the one I love to hate the most. Julia and Carmen are up there too, but I find myself pitying them a bit lately so that makes it harder to hate them. :D

I go back and forth on this fake thing. On the first show from Hollywood (when there was the huge group of them trying to make the first cut of 32), she came across as a b*tch to Julia DeMato. Since then, she's mellowed, but at times she seems to over do it. Of course, I'm a guy, and I wouldnt mind if she was handign all over me like the way she hangs on Clay. Or the other guys. Even if it was just "being nice" :)

I just find the comment "pop star type" silly. This so-called type is what the industry has thrown at us as being a pop star. I think when Pop first started, they weren't all models.. many were just average, but they had that something .. what's it called.. OH YEAH.. TALENT... since then things have changed. That doesn't mean we HAVE TO accept it. A pop star can be anyone that the public likes. They don't HAVE TO fit a certain look, IMHO.
I also find it amusing how Simon says something (like broadway voice, or theme park singing) and everyone starts using those terms.....
I'm not aiming this at anyone inparticular - just something I notice people doing...

Why is it silly?? I mean, the industry decides who to throw at us. They decide who gets the recording contracts and who gets to big promotional push. It's their playground. They make the rules. I'm just saying Kimberly Caldwell looks like she might be able to play there. Much more so than the other girls on "Idol" (except Trenyece. I already said Kimberly C. was the #2 girl)
Posted by: tonyoci
I tend to think Kim C is fake but I do believe her tears when one of her new 'friends' got voted off were genuine and that put me back on her side. I would probably agree that she is the #2 female but that is not a really high recommendation. I have found her singing to be one dimensional and she has not really improved at all since the earlier shows.
It's all the waving and winking and high fives and hugs that bug me.
I agree with the comments that she just cannot shake that "theme park thing"
Regarding the pop idol thing. The point of the show is not to change what a pop idol is it's to find someone who can become a pop idol, even if that is wrong. However when you have the public voting that can screw with the record company plans.
I think I remember the "Broadway" comments being made on this board (and probably elsewhere) before they were on the show. The theme park singing was just so obvious, my wife said it while she was singing and it seems others did to. Simon's comments (while more mean) are usually right in line with mine (though not when it comes to Cory and Carmen).
