Avcast sound question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I understand that Avcast allows retransmission to other rooms of Tivo with mono sound. Is there a system that allows you to use Tivo in another room and retain stereo sound?

Something like this, perhaps? I have one and it works well.

Litzdog911:

Thank-you for your response. This does appear to be a workable answer. Course it makes me wonder why I can't hardwire (the wires are already in my walls) this directly. Either way, you either gave me an answer or you gave me the right question. Thanks!

Check out the TERK wired sender:

This is reported to work well, with a little bit better resolution, but you may run into conflicts with DSL, etc if you have other things running through the phone wires. Naturally, nothing precludes you from running your own "private" phone line between units, so..... and phone wire is MUCH easier to make disappear than RG6!

Also, definately do check around for pricing differences. This thing varies all across the board.

Edit: typos.....

Aquatic: Thanks for the reply. The TERK is probably not a good choice for me b/c I have DSL and have a centralized phone system.

Has anyone heard of the Elan IRAWP. This thing is apparently relatively expensive (>$200). Anyway, this is what my tech guy is proposing to use to hardwire the solution. (Why do I second guess my tech guy--b/c, among other things, he doesn't have TIVO and is not the zealot that folks here tend to be--but he does know my house etc) There isn't much about it on the internet (only one link!). And my search on this forum turned up very little (nothing applicable to this situation). Remember the goal is to be able to access the TIVO from another room (to both watch and control is) while maintaining stereo quality sound. The two rooms that I want to be able to do this with are pretty close to each other with a basement below them so access to hardwiring solutions should be easy.

Again, my thanx in advance.

Actually....remember your phone wiring is typically 4 wires...not all may/are used...so with a little tricky work you can make it work with standard wiring.

THAT said...what many others have done with the Terk is to do their own wiring--you don't need the phone company wiring to make it work. Just string a length of phone cable between units and away you go!

Almost any mass market store ( Best Buy, Target, etc ) has the "super flat" phone cord...OR there's the REALLY thin stuff you can stick to a wall and paint over....:)

It's a bit of a Pain in the butt to push that wire under the carpet, or under the baseboard, etc, but it works and you won't feel a thing with that cable. I highly recommend "green sticks" or a good fish tape--worth their weight in gold!

Check out www.channelmaster.com too... but I'm no guru there, so someone else will have to suggest the right combination of things--but the right buzz words are there---Stereo/MTS and Video distribution, etc....
