Drive Died, Bought New, What Now?

Hello Tivo Gurus,
I have an unmodified Sony SAT T-60 that lost the origional 40GB hard from a massive power surge. I have secured a pair of 120 GB 5400RPM Western Digital 120GB drives.
The Model is a Sony SAT T-60 Sony Serial# 8054244 Tivo # 011-0000-502B-9928 the manufacture date is Feb 2001. It is currently a single drive model. If possible I would like to make it a dual and use both of the new Western Digital 120GB drives. I would gladly settle for 1 if I have to.
I am technically profecient and have all the required tools save the most important component, I have no functioning origional drive. Can one of you Tivo Wizards help me out?

Yes, I have this document , but it does not address the process if your source drive is dead. Can anyone offer some help here?

OK, I have aquired the following images,
Sony_SAT-T60_2.0.1-30G
Sony_SAT-T60_2.0-40G
Sony_SAT-T60_2.5
The question is which image do I use? I do not know what software version it started with, or what it was at. The Model is a Sony SAT T-60 Sony Serial# 8054244 Tivo # 011-0000-502B-9928 the manufacture date is Feb 2001. As of this weekend it was current with a lifetime Tivo subscription through DirecTV.
The next question is what is the correct procedure. The hinsdale-how-to does not address the failed drive scenario. I copied the image to my C: drive, but linux won't mount that drive since it is NTFS. Should I burn the image to a CD Rom and mount it that way.
I have the drives connected in the XP machine as follows:
Primary Master - XP NTFS Drive
Primary Slave - New 120GB Tivo A Drive
Secondary Master - CD Rom
Secondary Slave - New 120GB Tivo B Drive
BTW I have read the Hinsdale How To (great work) and the Tivo Upgrade FAQ. I have yet to find the steps for dealing with my problem.

I just had the same thing happen to me...
You can find the information in the hinsdale document, but you have to go poking around for it...
the basic idea is this (what I did anyway, but you'll need to refer to the documentation for details...REPEAT, SEE THE ACTUAL DOCUMENT FOR DETAILS.)
you need the mfstools boot floppy, and also the tivo mad or mad tivo tools boot floppy.
put the two disks on the secondary ide cable.
once booted, you'll mount the pc file system where you stored the .bak file. in my case, I had to kill an old disk and create a fat32 partition...it doesn't deal with ntfs.
once that is mounted, you'll use a restore command to restore that image onto your master. I used the command that restored, expanded and married all at the same time.
once this is done, you'll boot on the mad tools floppy, and follow the instructions in the document to run edit_bootparms.
after this, you should be able to put the disks back into your system. (when doing so, be very careful to put the MASTER on the END of the cable, and the SLAVE in the MIDDLE.)
that's the general flow...post a followup if you're still confused.

Thanks, That answers the procedure question.
This question still exists:
Of the following images
Sony_SAT-T60_2.0.1-30G
Sony_SAT-T60_2.0-40G - "Virgin"
Sony_SAT-T60_2.5
Which image do I use? I do not know what software version it started with, or what it was at. The Model is a Sony SAT T-60 Sony Serial# 8054244 Tivo # 011-0000-502B-9928 the manufacture date is Feb 2001. As of this weekend it was current with a lifetime Tivo subscription through DirecTV.

not sure which version to use...but if it was me, I'd pick the most up to date...
when I did mine, I had to load a 2.0 version, then let the software download and update to 3.0+ during the first or second call... (both of which I forced).
don't know that it would make much of a difference...why not go for
the latest?

Robert,
As I will be attempting the same procedure next week (friend is giving me a dead Tivo) - how did you "acquire" those images?
Thanks,
-J

Robert,
Any of those T-60 images will work for you. The v2.5 will give an "error #51" and you will need to do a "Clear and Delete everything" from the setup screen to get rid of the error.
Any of the three images will be upgraded to V3.0 if you have already recieved your P4 card from DirecTV. They will be upgraded to v2.52 if you have not.

226 Hours! It works great now, thanks guys!
What is a P4 Card?
Posted by: yellaboyla
Hey Robert congrats on the upgrade. Well done.
A P-4 is Direct TV's new access card. It is blue with chevons on it. The older card is the HU, or football card. This card has football players on it.
Some newer images require that u switch to the new card, P-4. I can't go any furthur than that.
Not allowed to get into DTV stuff here........thx

I have tried the v2.5 but invariably get an end of file error or error uncompressing. I tried downloading the file again, to no avail. I'm reluctant to use the 2.0 version as I believe my Sat-t60 came with 2.5 and don't wish to exhibit MORON2 behaviour. My desktop is running XP/NTFS, so I created a FAT32 partition, then read posts saying there were end of file issues, so I created a CD and got issues uncompressing. Could I just have image corruption issues?
The system was running beautifully on a NIC connection until I believe the HD overheated. (I installed a NIC and dumped my land-line phone the day after v3 downloaded). Started by getting choppy "reception" then had trouble rebooting, then finally no boot. The result is I have a 40GB paperweight (won't even recognize to BIOS, and makes awful clunking noises). I'm slightly tempted to use the Hinsdale's service and get a big drive "pre-blessed", but I happen to have a new 120GB WD I'd like to use.
Are there any SAT-T60 v3 images? If I try the v2 and I began life with v2.5 (don't remember for sure), will it update to 3 if I take it to a phone line?

I have a T-60 version 3.1 available. I also have latest 40, 60, and 80 hour Series 2 images, as well as one for HDRV2, and can point you to an ftp server with Series 1 images. Send me a Private Message, and I'll send you the URL. (We can't post it on these boards, because the images are copyrighted.)
