It's time....

Has anyone managed to solve the 24 dilemma yet? I'd like to record the
BBC2 (n)th episode and then the BBC3 (n+1)th episode in case it all gets
too exciting and I can't wait a week! However I always feel I have to
add 5 minutes padding to anything shown on BBC2 (usual reasons - sigh)
and the only way then to record the BBC3 next episode is to set up a
manual recording for BBC3 starting at 22:50. This will
a. always miss the first 5 minutes anyway - and who knows what could have happened!
b. miss even more if BBC2 run even later
c. fail if the BBC3 timeslot changes.

anyone got any bright ideas?

Have two TiVos and record one on each, both with padding to allow for the BBCs 'flexible' approach to published schedules :)

If you've only got one TiVo, watch it 'live' and switch over to BBC3 when the BBC2 episode has finished and see if you've missed the start... if not, hit record.

Surely this is useless on a weekly basis, since the BBC3 episode will be the BBC2 episode this week... ??
It might work for 1 week only but after that...a waste of time recording BBC2.
Why not just record the BBC3 version and pad that till your hearts content.

Or by the same token, why not record the BBC2 version and pad that one. Watch it on a Saturday if you like, so the next episode will be on sooner! Remember:
* The BBC3 episodes have a logo spoiling the picture, the BBC2 ones do not.
* You will NOT see the finale any earlier and will have to wait TWO weeks for it if you follow on BBC3. It will be simulcast with BBC2.

You think you've got problems, here in N.Ireland I get it on RTE as well. It was the same with Taken. The wishlist seems to record off a different channel each time so the order they appear in "Now playing" is all over the place.

A slight aside but relevant - catching up on 3 episodes of 24 last night, some from Three due to clashes, one of the Three had a voiceover trail for the next show (some sort of 24 special) *IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROGRAMME!*

About 15 minutes in the sound of the programme was actually faded down and a booming, overexcited continuity anouncer spoke over the top. The worst thing i've ever seen done to a programme in the Uk.

I think we can be fairly confident this was a mistake :)

I've always found BBC scheduling to be spot-on most of the time (at least for the standard 44-minute US shows). It's a lot more reliable than ITV, Ch4 or Ch5.

Generally my recordings of 24 on BBC2 are fine without any padding at the end - I record X-Files immediately after it, and it's never overlapped. Yet.

I did phone the BBC up after seeing the voice over, and requested an assurance from that it was a mistake, and haven't heard anything from them in 2 weeks :(

Of course, with current events in the world, perhaps ALL parding should be at least 30 mins for the time being. :/

It was the same recorded announcement that plays over the end credits. Someone must have got trigger-happy.

Mind you, I did turn into "outraged of Holmfirth" for about 10 seconds when I heard it!

Rubbish - it is now the third time they have done it, it was not immediately faded down but rather allowed to play all the way through, and there was no apology broadcast.

I thought you read usenet? I'm sure i've seen your name in the tv groups. You'll have seen that someone has had his letter about this published in the Radio Times, and the BBC's claim that it was a "one-off mistake" which is patently untrue for the reasons above.

No, it was a mistake, but had happend before (in the last series). The quality of staff on BBC3 does seem rather suspect!

All the trails are recorded in advance, and played out on mini-disk (as opposed to other BBC channels which are done live). When auditioning the trail they were going to put out at the end of the programme, they set their machine to play out to air accidently - nightmare! If they had realised it was going on air, they probably wouldn't fade it out - it's only 5 seconds long or so, and the damage had been done. No apology can be broadcast, as there's no-one around to apologise.
They also messed up in the same episode or the week before - there's supposed to be a 'discreet'(!) graphic in the bottom right hand corner which shows what's on next; they managed to run the graphic the wrong way round, so the whole screen was obliterated briefly by an animation. D'oh!

BBC3 really do have some annoying on-air promotion tactics - but it's more productive to moan about the ones they mean to do, and plan to do again!

Well I have got SP's set up for the lot and 3:up: for anything 24 and yet again this week it failed to place anything in the "to do list"
I had to set the whole lot up myself. grrrrrrrrrr

Also it missed a "wrong car right car " last evening , again a SP set up and it recorded some tosh on BBC1 which wasnt in the suggestions or in the to do list or even a SP for it .

My TiVo is rebeling

I have brought the subject up on the 24 progs failing to record and have been told its to do with the way the SP's are set , so they are now both top priority , BBC2 is 1st then BBC3 and lastly BBC3 "pure24" But they still fail to record due to this 28 day rule stuff , well thats what TiVo says.

A new problem as well is that I didnt get a SP option the other day for a prog. Can this happen ?????
I cant remeber the channel or the name of the prog but I will try to find it again . Any ideas , I thought you could have a SP for any prog ???

Oooh. I know this one :)

You only get SPs for a programme if it has been set up correctly within the Tivo system's database. Films, for example, do not need episode data. Nor do one-off doccumentaries.

Ooooh does this mean I have found a guide data error .

I now know the program and the channel and its a series and there is no sign of a season pass for it.

Can I , Can I , Can I ..........Please :D

[python]
This is getting silly!
[/python]

Actually, I was trying to infer that in all of your post, I found the one problem I could answer. But never mind :p

If you think you've found a problem, it should be reported to the Head....erm.... I mean Tivo CS and also the Programme Errors thread on here. Tell me what it is and I'll check it on mine.

Posted by: Furball

Certainly Sir :)

OK now no giggling :p

31/03/03
Discovery Channel
8.00pm
Hard Hat Derby

Its also repeated on +1 and there appears to be loads of up and coming ep's , as there always is on any Disco channel .

Its to replace Thunder Racers which there was a SP for .

Will you do the honours or shall I

Just checked it now and you are right. Not that we doubted you but a second opinion always helps :D

I'll let you call Tivo CS about it as it affects you more than me!

I'm going through the episodes of 24 I have on my Tivo, trying to find a piece of dialogue and I can't find it; it's when Tony is interviewing people in the 'wedding house', and he refers to Finsbury Park Mosque as being a hotbed of terrorism - does anyone know which episode it's in, or was it taken out of the BBC showings (I saw the US episodes, where the adverts prevent any awkward jumps)

Posted by: Paj

I don't remember hearing that in any of the episodes so far.

The Beeb seem to have taken note of complaints about this. The most recent episode on BBC3 (30/03/03) didn't have the logo for the duration of 24, and only restored it for Pure 24 afterwards.

Indeed, and LOGOFREETV are taking all the credit in most of the media newsgroups.
