Help--upgrading HDVR2 today!

I have a GXCEBOT which we think has power supply issues and can't support two drives. I bought an HDVR2 that I'm doing guided set up on now, and will be replacing the 40GB drive with a 120 GB drive accrding to the Hinsdale How To.

1. Can I run the backup from the 40GB drive in the GXCEBOT (it has all my season passes and whatnot) and transfer it to the 120GB drive to be placed in the new HDVR2 without any problems?

2. So, I'll have an extra 40GB drive laying around. Can I jumber the HDVR2 40GB to slave and drop it in the GXCEBOT (assuming the power supply will support the two drives)? Do I have to run a new utility on the HDVR2's 40GB drive? Thanks!

Leslie,

You can't use the GXCEBOT software on the HDVR2 - it just wont work. There is no way to move those settings and recordings over; you have to set up your HDVR2 from scratch.

You can add the 40 GB to the GXCEBOT - just put both drives in the PC and use mfsadd. Then, you'll need a longer ribbon cable, a power splitter, and four drive-mounting screws.

Good news! The backup of the 40 GB HDVR2 drive went fine, and the newly upgraded 120GB Maxtor is in the HDVR2 and working fine. I'm having a little trouble setting up the new season passes--it can't find my favorite shows! I forced a call this afternoon, and all the system information seems up to date. Any thoughts?

The GXCEBOT is in the basement for now with the original 40GB drive, and I think we might take the old HDVR2 drive, reformat it, and replace the failing 15GB HD in DH's computer. I have a good virgin image of the HDVR2 drive--is there any reason I should keep the drive?

Thanks!

If you have the image, you don't really need the drive. So go ahead and put it in the PC.

Do you have your local channel info on the HDVR2? Maybe that's why you can't find all of your shows? If you need it, just call DirecTV and ask them to force a download.
