Need help on mounting drive in Linux

I have an Asus MB with RAID on board. My standard IDE ports show up as hde, hdf, hdg, hdh. That's OK, I can adjust commands.

However, in the following command from Hinsdale to mount the Primary IDE drive:

mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos

what does the "1" after hda in the 2nd line refer to. Do I need to adjust this because my primary Master is hde?

I know zero Linux.

Thanks for any help!

That's the first partition of the drive - going to hde1 should work in its place, as long as Linux sees those drives on boot.
