Acquiring Sat Info "Stuck" at 70%

OK, I have had my SAT-T60 for about 2years or so now. I have upgraded it twice and it currently has 225 hours via 2 120GB drives. It has been in this config for about 1 yr. I came home today to turn on the TV and see a the message "Acquiring satellite information...70%" and it just stays there. I am not sure why/when it rebooted but I waited about 10min. then unplugged it to only return back to the same results. Anyone have an ideas. I have never had this problem and there were NO indications of problems. Here are more specific questions. Is this still at the point of being in the firmware processing or is it reading from/writing to the disk and having problems. Has anyone else seen this. If it is a disk problem I can easily do a restore from my backup images, but if not I guess it is a brick or time to send to Sony for repair (but probably not worth the $, I would just go get another HDVR2).

Any ideas/suggestions.

Thanks,

sounds like drive issue. Can u get to menu to do a reset? If you can't shoot for a re-image...

What kind of dish(es) do you have? If you have a multisat dish (in whatever configuration), try reconfiguring for a round dish and see if it changes anything.

Another thing to try: Switch satellite cables on the back of the unit, and/or revert to a single tuner.

If none of this helps, my last gasp effort: Open the unit and reseat the power supply ribbon cable (all you need to do is move it ever so slightly in and out of the connectors on both ends to make sure it's making good contact).

Failing all of that, well, it's time to either send it in for service, or sell it on eBay and use the proceeds to get an HDVR2. Even if it's non-functional, I bet you'll get enough to buy a HDVR2.

Well,

I can only figure ONE thing, but it could be one other.

When I got home the unit was pretty hot. My daughters had stacked some DVDs beside (on each side) and a DVD holder on top (acting as quite a good insulator to HOLD IN HEAT) of the unit so I am sure it wasn't moving much air. It is possible that it could have been very warm and just had an issue trying to go beyond the 70%. I took away the DVDs from the sides and top when I unplugged the unit the first time to see if it would correct itself. When it didn't I cranked the fan up and the AC down and unplugged the unit for about 3hours or so. I then plugged it back in and let it rip, and all went well. The only other thing that I can think of is that I do have a quite complex dish/wiring setup and it COULD have had a moment of bad connectivity I guess (but I am betting against that). I have three separate ROUND dishes on my roof one of each pointed to 101, 110 and 119, and a sat c kit (combiner) on the 110 dish for my HD/DTV setup. And where this particular SAT-T60 is I also have the DSR6000 and a Zenith SAT520HD. There are three lines running to this location from my attic, two go into a cascaded multiswitch to run the two DTiVos, the third is dedicated to the Zenith HD box. I haven't had any problems with this setup EVER so I am not thinking that it is the problem now, but who knows. I did used to have a problem occaisionally losing signal on some of my tuners on my two DTiVos before I added the Zenith and replaced a "mechanical" powered 2X4 Multiswitch with my current unpowered electronic 2X4 Multiswitch. Again, since then (Before Christmas) no problems. Thanks to both for your suggestions. Hey, check out my roof pics ;) (sorry about the quality, had to shrink them to fit on the post)

Nice setup. I may have to do something similar when I eventually upgrade for HDTV DirecTV because I can't see all three satellites from one location due to trees around my house. Glad to know this can work!
