Is there anyway to take advantage of the new Series 2 features with a Series 1 unit? Does anyone offer this type of upgrade?

Unfortunately, you have to buy the new hardware to get the upcoming new features. There is a chance that Series 1 units might get a subset of the new features some point in the future, but I wouldn't hold my breath. TiVo is not actively developing software for the Series 1 anymore, although they currently say that they are not yet ruling out future development.

Last month, there was a promotion that allowed Series 1 owners to transfer their lifetime subscription to a new Series 2 unit. Unfortunately, that was a one-time offer, and it's no longer available.
