Firefly DVDs, entirely in widescreen, including unaired episodes, and in the correct order.

I can't wait.

hmmm, I did some research on the proper episode order and I think that Heart of Gold is supposed to be before Objects in Space.
and the teaser for Trash has been floating around the net in script form.
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Trash apparently features the return of Saffron
The Digital Bits has also posted that it looks like Firefly DVDs are coming in 2003..

Somewhere, I saw an interview with Fox's DVD guru, who said that it was on their to-do list, but was not actively being worked on. The person writing the article inferred from this that the chances of it appearing yet in 2003 were slim, but that it would happen some day.

Here I was expecting another April Fools thread.

Ahh.. I knew there was something I was missing. While watching the blooper real I could just swear I was watching screwups from episodes I had never seen.
Bastards!

We've got something very cool today for you fans of TV shows on DVD. Amazon has revealed 20th Century Fox's TV DVD plans through the end of 2003, and even into very early 2004. Keep in mind that these titles haven't been officially announced by the studio, so it's to be taken as unofficial only. Also, things can change at any time. But here's the skinny:
NYPD Blue: Season 2 ($59.98) - August 19
Angel: Season 2 ($59.98) - August 19
Futurama: Volume 2 ($49.98) - September 2
24: Season 2 ($59.98) - September 2
Family Guy: Volume 2 ($49.98) - September 9
The Shield: The Complete Second Season ($59.98) - October 7
Dark Angel: The Complete Second Season ($59.98) - October 21
The X-Files: The Complete Eighth Season ($149.98) - November 4
King of the Hill: Season 2 ($39.98) - November 11
M*A*S*H: Season 5 Collector's Edition ($39.98) - December 9
Lost in Space: Season One ($79.98) - January 13, 2004
TBA - Simpsons: Season 3 and Malcom: Season 2. Also, be aware that work is underway to release Firefly on DVD in 2003.
I realize that this is not a guarantee but I've got my fingers crossed.
I'm of the opinion that all the episodes were shot in widescreen...

That doesn't sound good to me...they have release dates through January 2004, but no Firefly. And we know it's a show they don't have a whole lot of faith in...
Knock on wood, though. And yes, they were shot 16x9, although so was Buffy 4, and they're releasing that (and apparently, all subsequent seasons) 4:3. On the other hand, Whedon intended Buffy to be 4:3, and only shot it 16:9 for the UK (where all TV is 16:9); Firefly was supposed to be broadcast letterboxed, at least at first, and Fox changed their minds. So maybe...

Let's hope it will be soon. Such a great show. Such a quick end... :(

Whoa! I like the idea of Firefly on DVD, but I about fell out of my chair when viewing that page. The girl in the Bend it Like Beckham ad could be the identical twin of my last girlfriend. Creepy!

Firefly DVDs will be out by December, according to USA Today.
quote:
Firefly may be grounded, but it's not quite ready to be scrapped.
Created by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), this Western-in-space spectacular was cancelled by Fox this winter after a mere half-season's run. Whedon, however, remains committed to the show's possibilities-and hurt by it's quick demise.
"I still haven't given up on Firefly," he says, "which may seem strange since its been off the air for months. If I can find a new home for Firefly, TV or movies or any damn thing,it will soften the blow."

Thanks for the news Chris!! :D

Good news....
Fox killed this show by making them show a substandard episode instead of the Pilot.

In my ideal world, the DVDs will sell so well that Fox (or someone else) decides to pick it up again. Or maybe it does so well overseas that we get it here too (Baywatch, anyone?)

Heh. I think actually that DVD box sets sales are starting to make up a large part of the income for a show...
Take the episodes, throw in some bonus material, and sell them, and people do buy them (I do...). TV's gotten to the point where it's almost pointless to watch it, so it's easier to wait for the DVD. I suspect the next business model is where the TV is the trial series, and you're obliged to buy the DVDs to finish it... would be one way to get around the pesky show-distribution/copying issue I suppose.
But I'm not complaining... DVDs are better than my VHS copies and stuff I TiVo off of cable. If only more stations would do the same.
