King of Iron Chef

Starting Next Saturday.
My Iron Chef season pass did not pick it up.
you have to set up a new Season Pass for King of Iron Chef.

An SP for "Iron Chef" won't pick it up because it's not the same series. It's a different program entirely called "King of Iron Chefs. Also, because of the plural on the "Iron Chef" part, an ARWL used to pick up the original series won't pick this one up.

Thanks for the heads up. Is this a series, or a 1 time episode?

According to my wife, it's a four episode "series." I guess that since they're cancelling the regular Iron Chef show, they're doing a competition between the Iron Chefs to see "whose cuisine shall reign supreme."

Iron Chef is not canceled...
Well at least not in the US... It was taken off the air in Japan back in 1999. (They like to stop shows their at their peak)
FoodTV aired the last episode shown in Japan last week, so now they are showing the special "King of Iron Chef" serie that ended the show.
After that it's back to normal, IC on Saturday and Thursday (instead of Friday). Never seen in the US episodes that aired between 1994 and 1999 in Japan. FoodTV only aired about 5% of the total episodes available... so it will be a while before they run out.
Also they still do "Specials" every year in Japan. The last one was aired last week in Japan. It will be a while before we see it tho...

Actually, it's a 5 episode "series" (from the Food Network press release [may contain spoilers] - which also identifies the IC's, theme ingredients, and the World Champion Chef):
4/5 - Semifinal #1
4/12 - Semifinal #2
4/19 - Final, part 1
4/26 - Final, part 2
5/3 - Grand Finale, IC Final winner v. (non-IC) World Champion Chef

It seems that at least for DTV, these show up as individual episodes, and so you can't set a season pass. Ironically, the descriptions have the Chef names, so I know who wins the show aired this Saturday.

Er, there was? Do tell details! Last I heard the 2002 special didn't go over so well, and supposedly that was to be the end of that. Was there really a 2003 special?

(whom has a copy of the 2002 special and agrees it's an especially weird one)

Not canceled. THese were the last episodes shown in Japan when they stopped making the show as a regular series in 1999. They've done several specials since (a few of which we've already seen). It's changing nights after the KOIC specials, too, but I forget the details there offhand.
I also can't season pass this thing, either - I have to manually pick it up. There's no "Season Pass" option for King of Iron Chefs.

I was under the impression that the one from 2002 (aka "The Japan Cup") was to be the last one. Especially sine that one didn't go down well (and could be why Food TV hasn't shown it). There's a really big spoiler in this show that I probably shouldn't say publically, though.
