What are the main features of Tivoweb?

Can you watch your recorded programs from an internet browser?

Tivoweb has many features, one being you can maintain your Tivo from a browser as if your were in front of it with the remote. Like when you're at work, or if someone else is watching a program.

Your second question raises a taboo topic that can't be discussed on this forum.

Wha? Since when is the topic of remote viewing of your Tivo in an internet browser taboo?

A friend of a friend installed Windows Media Server (or whatever it's called). He then plugged his Tivo's video/audio output into the "in" jacks of his server.

He uses an web->IR controller (ick! I keep telling him to use TivoWeb's webremote, but he doesn't want to really hack it), and so he can watch his Tivo, streaming, over the Internet.

[Oh look, somebody on this board did the same thing.]

I don't think this is in violation of this board's policies.

[FYI, caseman1, what *is* prohibited is talk about "extracting" the shows straight off of your Tivo in pure digital form. My friend's friend is using a digital -> analog -> digital process.]

Oh, and in answer to your original question. Here's what Tivoweb *can* do:

- Allow you to schedule recordings from a web interface.
- View Now Showing, To Do, Season Passes, etc. all in one browser window.
- If you set up your Tivo on the Internet, you can do this from anywhere on the Net. (A secure firewall/proxy setup is recommended.)

- Get info on your Tivo like uptime, kernel, disk usage.
- Emulate the Tivo's remote control from a web browser.
- Send yourself Tivo messages.

But the first one is really the killer app for me. :-}

Here's a list I posted a while back in another thread. Took me a while to find it! :)

Things that you can't do normally:
* undelete recordings if the disc space hasn't been re-used

It's worth it just for that, and I could stop there, but also:
* edit synopsis/title etc of recordings
* view thumbs data
* add new channel logos for all the channels without logos in Now Playing
* Now Playing/ToDo/Season Pass list etc are presented with everything on one screen, far easier to scroll and see the full list than on the TiVo
* create and edit Tivo messages
* view disc space usage (free space)
* much better searching of programmes than on the tivo
* change the bitrates tivo uses for its recordings
* instant "save longers" rather than waiting 20 seconds each time on the TiVo.

with extra modules:
* search Advisory Codes (eg generate lists of all programmes with "Adult" rating)
* show conflicts for a series (as well as "will be recorded" icons in a View Upcoming list, see "can't be recorded because it'd clash" icons in the list as well)
* check guide data
