I'm about to upgrade my Philips 30hr HDR312 Standalone with a Single 30GB A drive to a single 120GB drive. If I'm going to just put the original drive away for safe keeping do you think that I need to make the backup of the original drive unto my computer or can I just skip that step? I want to make sure by skipping that step I'm not missing something in the big picture. Thanks for your help.

I would make a backup in case something fails during your upgrade and you destroy your original image and lose your settings....
