picture quality with DVR2

Hi,
I have a HDVR2 with fw rev 3.1.blah...
The picture quality compared to the original HDVR is very poor - lots of digital artifacts. I've seen postings here that fw rev 3.2 improves picture quality, but I can't figure out how to force my HDVR2 to upgrade to 3.2. It does it's daily phone call, but still 3.1 - even if I force it.
How can I force it to 3.2?
And why is the picture quality in HDVR2 so poor compared to the original?

Sorry to hear about the issue. I can't address picture quality (not my area of expertise), but just wanted to let you know that the latest software version for a DIRECTV with TiVo Receiver is 3.1. The posts you saw referring to 3.2 were for standalone TiVo DVRs.

Ok, I'll post a more general question. I have a Series 2 DirecTv Tivo (Hughes HDVR2).
The TV picture displayed seems to have lots of digital artifacts - it looks like highly compressed MPEG (low quality due to lost information). A friend who has a Series 1 DirecTv Tivo looked at the picture, and says it is a lot worse than his Series 1 picture quality.
Has anyone heard of any issues in this area?
Thanks,
-Matt

Matt,
Also sorry to hear about your PQ. I would recommend that you post your question in the Direct TV Tivo Forum. They should be able to help you. I've read about some PQ problems with SAs, but not with DTV Tivos.
Good luck!

Matt,
The picture quality for a HDVR2 is not different from Series 1 DirecTiVo's.
From what you describe, you either have poor signal quality coming into the TiVo for some reason, or you have a defective HDVR2 that should be replaced/repaired.
