Ed Season Ender (Spoilers)
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well what did everyone think?
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
I knew once he started go back to all the places that had memories for him and Carol, he would choose her. I thought it was very well done. I liked the Mike and Nancy sub story. I wonder if maybe they had Ed and Carol get together because the show may not get picked up for another season and this was a way to end it.

Well, since the topic said spoilers and it has now aired in all timezones I won't bother with spoiler tags.
I am glad he chose Carol for the very reason you said. I is very possibly and even likely that tonight was the last new episode of ED we will ever see. Since the whole show has revolved around those two characters I would not want the show to end with Carol heartbroken.
As for the rest of the show. If it was truly the last episode I would have liked to see a little more done with the supporting cast. The mike and nancy subplot was pretty good as it reassured that they are pretty much perfect for each other. But other characters were just left lingering
I would have even liked an ending at the bowling alley with Ed and Carol entering and all the supporting cast congratulating them or something.
Of course if it comes back next year most of my points are moot.

I sure hope that was not the last episode of Ed because it was excellent! They brought back what made the show good. If they had labeled the show as "Series Finale", it would have been a perfect ending....however I sure hope we will see more of Ed to come.

I'm too much of a SL fan to find this an acceptable outcome. :)
Is all the talk of Ed not returning just speculation, is there any hard evidence?
Posted by: DancnDude
No hard evidence except that it hasn't been announced that it was renewed yet, AFAIK

It's still early for pickups. For example, I don't believe that CBS has picked up any of its shows yet.

Yeah, but if you recall last year it was the last show renewed. Networks always like to try new things and if Ed is not garnering enough of a share, they will shelve it for something new.

Well, there was a lot of closure last night.
Mark is in the band and looking pretty fit. I don't remember the drummer's name, and my GF says he died during the procedure, but I thought there was just a serious complication. Looks like he lived.
Eli got a lady to cozy up to him. Shirley showed some brains and flash. Mike's partner is still a butt, but a bit more lovingly. And I feel like I'm missing a few others. But I think they did a pretty good job for the time allowed.
I too was loving Frankie. I'm so glad we were spared the actual scene where Ed has to tell her he's chosen Carrol. I will miss her on this show, if it continues.
But Ed made the correct choice. I've said elsewhere, the year Carrol was with Dennis the writers dumbed her down to the level of a lab rat. This season she's been returned to the bright, witty, character with some real depth that we used to know.
Don't know where the show could go for another season now that the deed is done. But if it returns, I'll watch.

Yeah I agree, the drummer just had serious complications and last nights ep showed him okay, closing that storyline.
Stubbs and Eli becoming friends is another one. What would have been nice to see is Molly hooking up with the fireman.

Man, that was a really good episode. The way they showed Ed struggling about the decision was really nicely done. And, the other story lines were good, too. The writers worked everyone in real well.
I, too, was taken aback when they showed the drummer. I thought for sure he died from complications. Huh?
Posted by: aciurczak
The drummer didn't die. There were complications in surgery, and I remember Mark saying something like "He will have stomach leakage problems, and can have serious complications for a year" or something like that.

I liked the episode too. The show kind of lost it's way during this season, but seemed to find it again at the end. I hope it comes back! I also liked the subplot with Mike and Nancy which was pretty funny.
On a different note, this is the first time I've been able to watch this show in high-def when lipsync was synched! I think our local station has been having problems with most of NBC's prime time shows with regards to audio/video sync on HD broadcasts, but hopefully they've fixed it. :)

Are you using a HD cable box? I am getting mine in 2 weeks and have no idea how to hook it up? I don't want to have to use 2 cable boxes. Any insight you could give would be greatly appreciated.

No, I have an HD tuner built-in to the TV. Are you talking about setting it up with TiVo? I think there was recently a thread about that in the Coffee House.

I liked the finale, but Frankie will be missed (just as I miss Sports Night.) I believe Ed will be renewed. I was reading in the newspaper 2 days ago that since moving to Friday it has received very good ratings. As for next year (being the optimist), I really hope they keep Ed and Carol together instead of falling back into the same old routine with those two. And get Molly hooked up!! She deserves a good guy.

Ed is doing well in its new timeslot. Just saw this on imdb:
quote:
NBC's decision to move Ed into Dateline's time period on Friday nights certainly seemed to pay off Friday as the show's season finale scored a 7.9 rating and a 13 share, making it the second-highest-rated show of the night, behind only NBC's Law & Order: SVU, which pulled a 10.5/17 in the 10:00 hour.
Go Ed, go Ed, go Ed, go! :)

I hope it comes back but this episode was so well done it left me satisfied enough if it doesn't. I'm a sucker for romantic comedy and this was well done.

Amen to that.
One of the best things about my DirecTivo is that it tracks down all the SportsNights that pop up at random times (like 4 am) on Comedy Central. One of my all-time favorite shows.
Hopefully Ed comes back - it has a great heart, and I truly enjoy all the characters (even Dr. Jerome).

Wow. Just got around to watching this episode. I was coming here to rain praise on the show for not leaving us hanging over the summer for Ed's answer and I see all this cancellation talk. Argh. That would just about figure. It's become one of my favorites and cancellation seems to be a common fate for my favorites. :(
But now that they've come full circle and ended up together, what's the show going to be about if (hopefully) it does get renewed? Can you make a good show about how to live happily ever after with your dream girl?
I suppose they could go back into bowling alley lawer cases for a while and throw in some of the usual new relationship subplots as time goes on, but I doubt that they can milk the "will they or won't they be together" angle any longer.
Unless this was just another lucid dream. :)
