Well. I liked this episode. Two weeks in a row I have liked it. Only problem the past two weeks is that the shows have only been 40 minutes. Why are they so damn short?

The whole Ruth & Intern thing is getting SUPER creepy. I love it.
Something has to give in this one. And via the previews it looks like something does next week.

I am also just waiting for something to explode in the Claire boyfriend relationship. When she dumps him he is going to kill himself or something.

The best storyline which needs to speed up a little is the Nate Lisa relationship. He so needs to move on. As horrible as that sounds. They are not meant to be together. Everytime I watch them on screen I feel that much happier about my marriage. And next week looks like a riot for this topic as well.

More Brenda..

Yeah, Lisa seems to have gone off the deep end, asking if Brenda looked at the baby or held her and all that. Can't wait to see what she's up to next week. And it has to be eating at Nate to have to ask his wife's permission to go to a funeral. He's trying SO hard to be the committed family man.

Well I hated this episode. Something has to happen. If you do a show about nothing... it has to at least be funny.

I had exactly the opposite reaction-- I thought there were several laugh-out-loud funny things in this episode. Arthur: "I love babies. they smell so SWEET!" Oh, man; that just cracked me up. I just pictured him going around smelling babies all day. It's so bizarre how he can be so creepy and yet so likable at the same time.

Arthur and Russel are quickly becoming two of my favorite characters on the show. I'm also very glad they gave Rico a subplot in which he was at least halfway-likable. they have made him into such a jerk all season.

Lots of good stuff this week.

Glad to see Billy at the start of the show. He seems much saner, which is a good thing - he will save it up for a big explosion later. I didn't even think "Oh, this is the corpse of the week" at the start.

I liked the "alternate reality" scene where Ruth thinks Arthur freaks out on her.

Does Ruthy really have a crush on Arthur? The scenes for next week sure made it look like something happens (a spur of the moment kiss?). I also can't tell if he is into her or making excuses (running for the first time) to get away. Nate's expression when he walks in on her dancing and singing with Arthur was priceless.

I agree that Lisa is losing it. Nate did exactly what she asked him to do. I can understand the jealousy, but asking if Brenda looked at or touched Maya is a bit much. Plus, having Maya there should have made the situation even safer for Lisa (no chance of sex with the ex with an infant there...)

Interesting scenes with Rico. First off, why didn't he press Nate for more details about his wife's weirdness. He let that drop too easily. And then he really screwed up his approach to talking to Vanessa. Talking about meds, and _then_ saying that he is there for her. Boy, he has a lot to learn about women if he thought that would go over smoothly.

Well, from the scene where she tells Rico to come home "because the kids are bouncing off the walls" while they were quietly sitting at the table, the viewer knows that something is troubling her. But as the title of the episode suggests, timing is everything.

Vanessa was acting pretty normal when Rico brought the whole thing up, simply asking him about a parent teacher meeting. And her comments about Nate being a nervous new parent were pretty normal too. So for Rico to jump right in with suggesting she needs drugs for her mood was really poor timing, regardless of how nice he tried to be about it all. While he may respect Nate's opinion, he really hadn't seen anything to suggest a need for drugs, not to mention the fact that Vanessa did just lose her mother.

Just my take on it.

This episode was definitely a step in the right direction. However, there really is no excuse for how this season has gone up until now. The Lisa and Nate storyline should have been dealt with in the first 3 episodes or so.
Normally, any time there is singing on a television show I FF. Yes, even Once More with Feeling. For some strange reason though I loved the short scene with Ruth and Arthur. The character or Ruth is finally growing on me after 2 1/2 years.
We need more dead people. Nate Sr. has been MIA too much this season.
The David and Keith storyline next week looks like it could be a riot. Keith is gonna get some payback!

Clutchbrake - what sort of payback? I am having trouble remembering the scenes from next week (although I do remember thinking that at least one of them was waaaay too over the top/soap opera-y).

I checked out HBO's 6FU site, and someone posted the following funny comment:

I think Ruth got into David's aspirin bottle again

I'm wondering if the short shows are because they're formatting for television. The Canadian television market (CTV) is already running Sopranos. I'm guessing they may be interested in SFU but would like to do less editing to get it to fit an hour. Now they have a pre-made ready to run show.

My wife thinks Lisa and Brenda are going to get busy at some point.

Better put it in spoilers just in case...

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Keith apparently decides to introduce his friends to David's friends... by inviting them to a friendly game of paintball.
In the scenes we see David and his friends cowering together behind a wall. It cuts to Keith and we see him hiding in the grass war-painting his face Apache style!

Blasphemy. Pure blasphemy! ;)

I'm still holding out hope that Claire buys Russel a bottle of shampoo as a thank-you for the tube of paint.

Good stuff. The Brenda-at-home-with-mom scenes were a yawnfest, but we got another good Arthur scene. Man, I hope that guys lasts a few more episodes!

I don't know...I can understand the arguments from the disgruntled camp, as the argument is very similar to the Sopranos rants from their recent season. But at the same time, I still must say that SFU is always worth the 45-50 minutes each week, hands down. It still delivers a quality show even when things get a bit mediocre.

Posted by: VegasVic

Unfortunately SFU has gone from a very good show with the occassional mediocre episode to a very mediocre show with the occassional good espisode.

Posted by: KRS

I agree with jerobi - I don't get the complaints about the show. As far as I am concerned, it is as good as ever.

I didn't agree with the complaints about the Sopranos either, but I could at least see how the show slowed the pace a little bit this past season. 6FU hasn't changed at all in terms of pacing or quality. What is the problem exactly?

Posted by: Satchel

Whenever I think of this SFU or Sopranos moving too slowly, I think of the last 20 episodes of Boston Public, where it seems they can't go 30 minutes without trying to top themselves...that is a show where the HUGE events happening every week got old...

I wanted more action out of the Sopranos last season...but I still enjoyed the shows...same with SFU...it's my current favorite show...even if I want more stuff to happen...I'm sure I'll be satisfied with the outcome...
