Cable question

Okay moved to an apartment and so now I'm "forced" to used cable (God I miss DTV). It's an old set up because the cable (comcast) has two wires coming into the house. A side and B side.
In the living room we have Motorola DCT 2244 box that actually combines the A and B. A=1-99 and B=100-up. Plus it gives us the digital channel. This is fine but I have the tivo in my room so I'm stuck with out the box. Yeah I could get another box but I rather buy something cheap/used instead of renting it.
Is there a product that will combine the channels like the motorola cabe box or is the cable box the only thing that will do that?

So long as both the A and B systems are analog and you don't need any kind of automated switching (for the likes of Tivo), you could use a simple manual A/B switch. I used to have one that I bought at Radio Shack.

You really, really need a box that combines the A and B lineups into a single numeric range.

jib.x - Thats what I'm using right now to switch between the ab channels.
bryonshock - Well, it more of a convenice for when I add the tivo in my room. Last time I check tivo only takes 1 coaxial.
Basically for now it's fine, but I wanna get a tivo in the room later on and was trying to see if anyone knew of a product that does what the motorola cable does but with out the other extra's. ( I don't need to order PPV or digtal channel in the room)

You'll need to keep the cable box and set up the Tivo to control it using the IR blaster. I know it sucks to have to use this setup but I don't see any other recourse until your cable company joins the 21st century and upgrades their equipment. You can probably buy a Motorola box via one of the cable equipment dealers. Run a search using the box model # and see what you come up with. There are a lot of universal boxes that may work on your system. I haven't had cable in quite a while so I can't recommend any specific dealers to check out. Run a search on-line for cableTV dealers or look in the back of some of the electronics, stereo, or home theater magazines for dealer ads.

It also takes only one lineup--the A side or the B side--if you set it up without a cable box. As long as you don't mind recording from just one side, you're fine, but if you want TiVo to record channels from both lineups, it can't be done without a cable box.
You *might* be able to find a third-party cable box (of the legal variety) with the capability to combine lineups and remap channels, but it's likely to cost quite a lot. I wouldn't even know where to start looking.

scott408,
Is there absolutely no way to get DTV? Are you limited by line of sight or landlord rules?

You need to move.

Pretty much I'm limited by the tree in the way and theres really no place to put it. I have no balcony. Eh, it's okay... I guess I can just buy the cable box. ebay for around $50 looks good.

Why dont you just get a second digital cable box for your room?
