4.0 Network w/o HMO

Just a quick note here. I've had 4.0 (without HMO) for a couple of weeks now and I've finally gotten the courage to set it up with my broadband connection. I'm happy to say that it was an almost painless, trouble-free operation. I have a Linksys USB100M adaptor ($10 on e-bay) connected to my TiVo 2 standalone. I have the TiVo connected to a Netgear DS104 hub ($6 on e-bay) which in turn connects to a Linksys HPRO200 Phoneline router ($60 on e-bay). All I did to set it up was plug in the adaptor to the TiVo then plugged the cable into the hub. The TiVo automatically detected the USB adaptor and told me to go to setup and change the connection type and viola......everything worked on the first try.

One warning though, the TiVo was recording something when I started the install and the remote was very, very, very sluggish. I cancelled out the record and the remote speed returned to normal. Obviously an indicator that the remote works much too fast for some things when the TiVo is occupied doing something, giving a lot of people the impression that the remote is broke when, it really isn't.

Now.........should I get HMO???????????

Yes! It's awesome!

Yes, whether you like HMO or not, this new 4.0 addresses many of the things we've wanted upgraded.

One of the big factors for me not getting a TiVo sooner was that I had no way to get a phone line to it--and I didn't want to use a wireless one. With 4.0, I just hook my TiVo to my wireless network without a hitch!

Just a quick question.

I've always encountered occasional wireless connectivity problems at work. My question is this:

If the wireless connection drops out with too annoying regularity, can I still revert back to the dial-up connection for updates?

Yes, you can still use dial-up if you want to with 4.0, I wouldn't expect TiVo to take that away any time soon.
