Which Drive Bad?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a relatively(Oct) new Series 2(1300040) with an additional 120gb Western hard drive. The machine is freezing up so I figure one of the hard drives must be bad. Is there an easy way to tell which drive is bad?

I did not do the upgrade and the guy who sold me the unit is not responding to my emails. I was hoping that the Western drive is still under warranty. It shows a date of mfg of May 2002.

You really need to test them both in a PC to see which one is bad - and you should make a backup ASAP (or try, at least) since if you are having problems with the A drive, the OS may not be recoverable for much longer.

Was the WD drive used? If it had a date that old, it was either used or sitting somewhere, but it should have at least a 1 year warranty, so you should be OK as long as you can get a backup and use the 40 while going through the warranty process (if that drive is the problem). Otherwise, you can use the 80 as a single drive if you backup and restore to it.
