Upgrade do over

Hi,
I upgraded my Sony T60 to a 120g drive, did the mfsadd and ended up with 105 hours of record time, which is way cool.
However. for whatever reason I could not get the mfsbackup and mfsrestore procedure to work so I used the dd method. Took forever.
On boot up everything is almost working fine. However, backgrounds are missing. I found from reading that has something to do with the -f switch. That the graphical backgrounds were not copied.
Also, sometimes when I hit the "list" button and go into "Now Playing" the machine locks up. Can't do anything, however the program continues to play. It wil eventually clear itself. Sometimes the "Now Playing" list displays, sometimes it doesn't
So, I assume something in the copy didn't work exactly corrrectly.
My question, can I just do the dd copy or mfs procedure again? Since the replacement drive is not "new", virgin anymore. And copy over the data on the new drive. Or, do I have to somehow erase the entire drive?
TIA

-f tells MFS Tools which files to copy, it has nothing to do with dd.

Thanks very much. I understand that.
That was not my question however.
Can I copy over or restore to a drive that already has data on it and has been written to? Or do I need to start with a totally empty drive?

Both dd and mfsrestore ignore anything already on the drive. No need to format or erase anything.
I don't quite understand how a dd copy managed to drop your backgrounds, though.

Thanks Robert. I'm going to start from scratch then and attempt this again.
I don't know how it didn't copy the backgrounds either, but it did. In one regard it is nice since you can still be watching a show as you program in recordings.
But there is still the "Now Playing" nuisance, sometimes locking up. So I might as well do it again and get it right.
Thanks again.

Heh, I was thinking that after I ended up without backgrounds (due to leaving out -f on the mfsbackup). It got annoying pretty quickly.
