I seen a post on how to do it. I looked for it to hard to find but I printed it out so I will type it out:
quote:
1. Upload Vim To /var/hack/bin
2. Upload lib*.so to /var/hack/lib
3. Upload .termcap to /var/hack
4. Modify .bashrc to fit your own needs, like PATH, LIB PAT etc.
5. Upload .bashrc to /
6 type: source /.bashrc
7. Copy /.bashrc to /var/hack under a new name (rootbashrc)
8. Move /var/hack/.bashrc to a new name (hackbashrc)
9. Detete /var/hack/.bashrc
10. Cat /var/hack/rootbashrc /var/hack/hackbashrc >/var/hack/.bashrc
11. Chmod 755 /var/hack/bin/vim
12. Reboot
13. Done.
I did all that. But now when I type DIR I get: bash: dir: command not found. What can I do to fix this?
All so when I did the steps I don't get it to good. Like step 7 I copy /.bashrc to /var/hack and then renamed it to rootbashrc I guess that is what it says to do.
All so step 8. Move /var/hack/.bashrc to a new name (hackbashrc) How do you move it to a new name? I think I just rename that there to hackbashrc.
I guess I did something wrong. I hope some one can help so I get the DIR command back.
I guess the lib*.so was the file libtermcap.so.2 It had the .zip file to download there.

Yikes... there is lots of extra steps there but to answer one question.... DIR is a DOS command, unless you created a link or shortcut you should use ls. Also, if you're installing vi why do you need to replace your .bashrc file?

ls don't work ether. I get this:
bash-2.02# dir
bash: dir: command not found
bash-2.02# ls -l
bash: ls: command not found
bash-2.02# ls
bash: ls: command not found
bash-2.02#
I don't know what the .bashrc does any way. But I think at step 6 I did a DIR and looks like it just showd the directorys in that file. So I guess it set up so you only look at the directorys in that file. I guess I tryed to set up to use the vi command at any promp and that messed up using the DIR or ls commands at any promp. I wish I know what I have to do to get the ls and dir command back?

Start by installing ls in /var/hack so you can see what's in the directory. Then make sure /var/hack is in your path. Do a echo $PATH to see your path. Also if you're not used to vi you might try joe as an alternative.

Were do I get the ls file to install to /var/hack ?
