Hello, I have a Sony 30 hour tivo which is about 3 or 4 years old, I upgraded my tivo when I first got it to 2 80 gig hard drives making it 196hrs. Now my tivo is starting to hesitate every now and then, I have tried deleting many programs that were older and I have even done a system rest several times, Can anyone think of anything that I can do to make my tivo work perfect? Do you think that my hard drives are starting to fail and that is why my tivo is hesitating? Another question I have is can the 80 tivo2 series be upgraded as well? I used to read these posts all the time and I have been out of the loop for a few years now, any and all help is much appreciated, thanks
MIKE

It sounds like you do have HD's that are starting to fail. The first indication is studders and audio drop out which you seem to be seeing. If you are not going to upgrade to another unit now is the time to take a backup and get your stuff onto new HD's.
If you want to get a new unit then the 80 hour units are upgradable but not without some extra hardware. The TiVo branded 40 and 80 no longer have mounts for two HD's and the power supply is smaller.
The Sony SVR3000 is the only unit that has both physical support for two HD"s and a large enough power supply to handle the extra load. Some have started to post that the SVR3000 may be hard to find since there are pending rumors that an SVR4000 is coming out in July.
That being said, if you went with the TiVo branded box you can purchase a mounting bracket and a staged power splitter to reduce any issues with the power supply.
