downloading to DVD recorder

Being concerned that my two year old SAT-T60, upgraded with 100 and 120 WD hard drives, may, one of these days, take a dive with all our programs on it, and am looking at Philips DVD recorders. I know it will be possible to hook the magic machine to it, but in talking to a Philips help guy, was told that using the "less expensive" write to once, +R media, I would only be able to download one program to each disk (understandable, given the +R designation of this media).
My question is, after all that, is there a way to queue up several episodes of a half-hour program, and send them all to one of these disks? Or is there some other work around? Does having a machine like the Panasonic with their own hard drives take care of this, and it's just a matter of my looking at the wrong recorders? Spend more money up front to save it over time in not buying +RW (or equivalent) media? Could buy a lot of disks with the difference in current prices.
