Hard Drive Config for Upgrade

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I consider myself an intermediate to expert software user, but I don't get under the hood of my computer much. I'm getting ready to upgrade my 40hr Series 2 with a 120gb Samsung. I don't want to go to a 2 drive system just yet (don't know if I really need the space) and I plan to keep the 40gb for a backup.

I plan to do the upgrade on an old Win95 machine. My question is: If I don't need to make a backup do I even need the Win95 HDD in the machine to do the upgrade. Can I just put in the Tivo and new HDDs and boot from the Hinsdale CD?

Thanks for any help all you wonderful people can provide.

Hud

Yes, you can do that. A backup is a good idea, though.

You could put a small FAT partition on the new drive and backup to that and then copy it to the Windows drive.
