Image and NTFS Question

My original drive died before I ever backed it up but I did download an image but its on my NTFS drive. Im going to add another drive to my computer and and put a FAT partition on it. When I copy the image file off the NTFS drive to the FAT drive. Will that allow me to use it if needed now that its on a FAT drive?

It will be fine to do that or transfer to a cd.

Just mount your NTFS partition. It'll be read-only, but it should work.

If I needed the image to put on to a drive then I only need to read it anyway correct?
