I have a Philips 31202 I got used. I have determined that the modem is dead. I have found a used external I think will work. Now all I have to wait for is the mini to db9 to come in that I ordered from tivo. I was wondering after I get it all hooked up is there some special prefix I have to use to make the tivo dial through the serial port or will it do it automatically. Thanks for any info

Check out www.weaknees.com for this info plus you can buy thrie unit if you can't make yours work.

Theirs works just beautifully.

go into tivo underground and look for the long message thread entitled 'external modem success'. will answer all your questions and then some

In short, you have to program the modem (strings to be found in the thread referenced above), and then you have to add ",#319" to the dialing prefix (no quotes).
