One of my DSR6000s got zapped.
Preferably cheap. Doesn't need to have a drive.
Anyone?
Thanks,

I've got a phillips dsr6000R01 that had the hard drive die on me last night. Right now I'm having to decide to either sent it back to Phillips to fix, replace the hard drive myself or sell it and buy a series 2 unit. How much are you offering for a dsr6000?

Dunno. What is the going rate? Any ideas out there?

I don't know what the going rate is either. Here is my options. I have a dead harddrive. It won't even spin up. I can replace it for about $80-$100 and increase my tivo's storage. Or I can buy a new series2 unit for $250. I suppose that I part with it go for $125. Again I don't know if that is a fair deal or not.

Ill take it for 125 if he doesnt one of mine is just the opposite a good HD but dead motherboard.

These are selling for 150-225 on ebay as is with no remote or hd.

Some one please explain to me why I'd spend $150-$225 for an older series 1 unit with no hard drive. Add another $50 just for a 40 GB drive instead of using that $200 to $270 to buy a new series2 unit... Just curious. I'm guessing that the series 1 is ore hackable?

That's what I've heard.
There's a thread that some of the Hughes Series 2 are going for $159. You might want to consider that as well.

I don't have any idea why someone else would but I have 2 big hard drives filled with programming that I really would like to see. Hence the need for a Series one DSR6000 with or without hard drive.

Kurt, I may be wrong (happened many times before). But IIRC I read somewhere that after some software version you could not just dump the drives from one box into another and watch what was on the drives. You are forced to do a "clear and delete" which nukes the recordings. I seem to recall having to do this when I used the S/W backup that I had from one box to create new bigger drives for another box (the clear and delete thing)
I may be wrong, and if so someone please correct me.;)

willardcpa is correct. You won't be able to view the programming on another unit. When you say "zapped", exactly what got zapped? You might be able to replace, say, the power supply if that's the problem.

:) Hey folks, I decided to keep my DSR6000. I finished installed a new 120gb drive and its working like a charme thanks to the Hinsdale instrutions and software.

The tuners got zapped. Sent it to Truett and already have it back and it's working fine.

How much was the cost of the two tuners repaired?

With shipping it was ~160. I know, could almost buy a series 2 for that but hey, the season premiere of Stargate SG-1 was on that unit. So I really had to ;-)
Total time without the unit was about 2 weeks which is a LOT better turnaround than the last time I sent one back to the manufacturer.
